Pre-season

Get comfortable, because tonight has that feeling all over it. You can see it in the way the starters are moving through warmups, in the way both coordinators keep flipping to the same page, in the low rumble of a building that already knows it is about to live through something. The franchise about to take this field has seen everything: the four-touchdown afternoons, the fumbles at the goal line, the fifteen-point fourth-quarter comebacks, and the losses that quietly ended good men's careers. But here they are, still and always, absolutely desperate to tear something apart. The team with no name, baby! Now let's talk about the woman who moves more jerseys than the concession stands move beer. Sky Bri. Just the name changes the volume in this building. The woman is massive, arms long enough to be a zoning issue, and a processing speed that makes everybody else on the field look like they are wading through wet cement. This woman does not run, she accelerates. She does not fall down, she decides when the play is over. And when she locks eyes with a defender across the line of scrimmage, that defender starts having a genuinely bad afternoon before the ball is even snapped. And the most terrifying thing about her? It is not the size, it is not the stat sheet, it is the calm. You know that moment where the place is deafening, the play clock is bleeding out, everybody on both sidelines is losing their mind, and she is just chewing her mouthpiece like it is a Tuesday walkthrough? Then she does the thing. Cold. Precise. In front of a stadium that is one heartbeat away from a collective medical event. That is what a franchise player looks like: the girl carrying every single person in that building and somehow making it look boring. Hold onto your drink, because this next name is going to make you spit it out: Sky Bri. Occupation? Tv host. Yes, really. The coach saw her on television, called her agent (there was no agent), and offered her a contract just to see what would happen. The woman arrived at camp with bare hands, a sandwich, and bulletproof enthusiasm. On her first rep she tried to hurdle a defender and landed flat on the Gatorade table. The training staff came out. Twice. But she has heart, and apparently the precision she brings to the game might translate to placekicking. We believe. Well, the coach believes. The rest of us bought popcorn. The budget? What budget? This entire payroll would not cover the top two contracts on a real contender. The team accountant is the owner's cousin, he runs Excel 2003, and he has not had an update since the last realignment. The equipment guy tapes his own ankles. Road trips are the cheapest charter on the tarmac, and the last free agent who took a facility tour turned around the second he smelled the shower room. But here is the thing about broke football teams: nobody on this roster is guaranteed a paycheck past Tuesday, and desperate men hit people very, very hard.

Matchday 1 — vs Kansas City Burnt-Ends

20-41 (L)

The songwriter clocked in, walked straight through the left tackle, and clocked the opposing quarterback out. Ten yards of paid overtime. Their sideline is out of ideas. Ariana Grande shadows the route, the quarterback checks it down for two, and the chains stay right where they are. Our rush gets a hand up and misses by six inches. It is good anyway. Three for Kansas City Burnt-Ends, and the block unit walks off shaking their heads.

You want to know why this offense looks unbothered tonight? Watch Eva Elfie on every single snap. Nobody is getting home. There is a faster way through and the onlyfans model found it years ago. He has never once explained it to a coworker. Clean snap, laces away, and Eva Elfie does exactly what he has done all season from that range. The hold was perfect and he rewarded it.

Both linemen arrive first, which never happens, and they get to the end zone before the man who scored. Eva Elfie has to wait for three hundred pounds of guard to finish a shoulder shimmy that would embarrass a wedding reception. The crowd loses it. The center attempts a split and is helped up by two teammates and a trainer.

Loss of four. Sky Bri makes the stop, the chains do not move, and their sideline is already talking about field goal range. A false start backs them up five yards and it does not matter one bit. Good from forty-two, and Kansas City Burnt-Ends stretches the lead.

Sky Bri took the perfect angle there. He never chased the shoulders, he chased the sideline, and the sideline did the rest. That football sat on the turf for half a second looking for an owner, and Sky Bri adopted it and carried it home. They needed 72 inches. Tate McRae got about 36 of them. Nothing on the board.

The hands tell the whole story -- Elizabeth Hurley chops, rips underneath the outside shoulder, and the pocket collapses from the top down. Interference on Elizabeth Hurley. Automatic first down, the drive stays alive, and this defense has to line up all over again. Second time in three drives. Kansas City Burnt-Ends punches it in from the two and our front seven is standing there with hands on knees.

The teams head in. Tate McRae unbuckles the chin strap and lets it hang the whole way. Tonight's act is a tribute band. A tribute band to a group that is currently on tour. Let that sit for a second. And now, our halftime TV game show Concentration in the Red Zone! To win a five-gallon can of end zone paint, mostly dried, text BLITZ to 555-0271 and answer this question: 'How red is the red zone, in terms of actual paint?' Third quarter. Fresh downs, fresh script, same scoreboard.

Second and 3 from the 40, Eva Elfie pulls, the hole opens between the tackles, and the offense picks up the first down before anybody on defense lays a finger on the ball carrier. From 51, on the road, into the open end of this stadium. Tate McRae makes it. Three points.

The kicker is the only man still on the sideline, and he is jumping straight up and down by himself with both fists over his head. Nobody is looking at him. He does not care. Tate McRae spots him from the end zone, sprints forty yards back, and tackles him into the bench, and the broadcast stays on the two of them for a full ten seconds.

Pure technique breakdown: Ariana Grande never got his head around, and in this league that is a guaranteed thirty-yard donation. Play action freezes our linebackers, the tight end slips out behind them, and Kansas City Burnt-Ends scores with nobody in the picture. That is a bust, plain and simple.

There is nowhere left to go when the wall is already at your back, and Ariana Grande just took away the last two yards they had.

Five yards for one extra body. The songwriter is used to being the man they call when they need one more pair of hands, and tonight that was the whole problem. Kansas City Burnt-Ends goes deep on third and long and our safety arrives about a half second late. Fifty-two yards, and you can hear the concourse from here.

The songwriter takes the long way around the entire building and still gets there first. Nobody has ever accused him of choosing the direct route. The drive dies at the 12, but Madison Beer makes sure it was not a wasted trip down the field.

Madison Beer spikes it, Elizabeth Hurley spikes it, and then every man in the end zone spikes something -- a towel, a glove, a mouthpiece, an entirely imaginary object. It is a spiking epidemic. Turf pellets are hanging in the air like smoke. Three officials stand at the edge of it and simply wait for the weather to pass.

Back shoulder fade at the pylon, and Kansas City Burnt-Ends comes down with it over a defender who had inside leverage and nothing behind him. Perfectly placed, and this one is on us.

No targets, no catches, no yards. Madison Beer is having the kind of quiet game that wins football games. Sophie Rain folded that pocket like a lawn chair, and the opposing quarterback never saw the ceiling coming down. The internet celebrity brought the whole crew with him and left nothing standing on that side of the formation.

Ugly scene. Beyoncé is out of the game, the network has stopped showing replays, and the head coach is walking his own players back one at a time. Ohhh, that one hurts. Kansas City Burnt-Ends runs the same counter they have run all afternoon, the backside end crashes again, and it is a touchdown.

Everybody drops, everybody sprints upfield, and Madison Beer walks into a hallway that had four defenders standing in it a second ago. Their best edge rusher, one on one, no chip, no help, and Madison Beer rides him three yards past the quarterback. That matchup has been settled since the first quarter. No wind, no pressure off the edge, no doubt from Madison Beer. Down the middle from 36.

A conga line forms out of nowhere: Madison Beer at the front, Brooke Monk on his hips, and by the end of the end zone there are nine men in it including a trainer who should absolutely know better. It snakes past the goalpost and back. The head coach is on the sideline with both hands over his face, laughing.

OVER THE MIDDLE AND STILL STANDING! Brooke Monk takes the safety's best shot at the far hash, and Sophie Rain put that throw in the only window that exists! You cannot fault the craft: the tiktoker measured it, wound it up, and delivered it dead on the spot he was aiming at. Eight men happened to be standing on that spot.

Sophie Rain announces that the bus leaves in twenty. Elizabeth Hurley has nothing to say about the bus. And here is the answer to our game Concentration in the Red Zone! Arlene Bickerstaff of Red Barn Bottom, Virginia, got it right. The question, let me remind you, was 'How red is the red zone, in terms of actual paint?' The answer was of course two coats, and the second one was applied by a man in a hurry. Arlene takes home a five-gallon can of end zone paint, mostly dried! Yours truly ate a pretzel roughly the size of a steering wheel and has no comment on the salt content. We're out. Stay with us for 'Kitchen Nightmares: My Roommate Made Soup Again.'

Matchday 2 — vs Miami Champagne-Corks

35-33 (W)

BLOWN UP IN THE BACKFIELD! Ariana Grande shoots the A-gap and drops him four yards behind the line of scrimmage! Fifty-one yards and it is good with room to spare. Miami Champagne-Corks takes the lead back, and their kicker just woke that whole sideline up.

PULL AND SEAL! Beyoncé leads the way and Madison Beer is following him into the second level! There is a counter he is supposed to be standing behind right this minute, and instead the songwriter is running a track meet down the visiting sideline. Screen game to the field side. Madison Beer follows the guard, cuts off his hip at the thirty and finishes it untouched. Megan Fox works so fast that the crowd is still chanting about the touchdown when the football is already through.

Madison Beer reaches the sideline, lifts the lid off the orange barrel, and empties the whole thing over the offensive coordinator with most of the game still left to play. Ice goes everywhere. The coordinator does not move, does not blink, and keeps signaling in the extra point personnel as though nothing has occurred. Mikayla Demaiter hands him back his soaked call sheet and he takes it without looking up.

A onlyfans model lives and dies by timing, and he was a tenth of a second early on that one. Pass knocked down, drive stalled. Right down the middle from thirty-four. Miami Champagne-Corks caps a twelve-play march with three, and eight minutes came off that clock with it.

Short yardage is manual labor and nothing else, and this is a songwriter who has done harder work than that for considerably less money. The film producer stands there while a room full of officials studies his work in slow motion. Everybody gets a performance review; his is running on the videoboard. Nothing on the scoreboard changes, nobody in here ever stopped celebrating, and the extra point unit is already lined up. Six for Elizabeth Hurley. Big touchdown, big celebration, and then the songwriter quietly comes on to file the paperwork. Point is good.

A conga line forms out of nowhere: Elizabeth Hurley at the front, Sophie Rain on his hips, and by the end of the end zone there are nine men in it including a trainer who should absolutely know better. It snakes past the goalpost and back. The head coach is on the sideline with both hands over his face, laughing.

You do not usually hire a film producer for demolition, but that run play was condemned on contact four yards deep. This place is SHAKING! Elizabeth Hurley has been living in that backfield all night and every soul in here knows it! It is up, and it is through. Three more for Miami Champagne-Corks, and a two-possession game feels a whole lot different than a one-possession game.

Halftime. Tate McRae jogs up the tunnel with her chin strap already swinging loose. Intel: Tate McRae hid a teammate's helmet at halftime once, and that teammate has not let it go in three seasons. And now, our halftime TV game show The Newlywed Tailgate Game! To win a scrapbook of every argument ever settled by instant replay, text BLITZ to 555-0246 and answer this question: 'How long has that couple in row twelve been arguing about the same fumble?' The returner takes it at the goal line and decides to bring it out. Here we go.

Fourth quarter, prime time, and Eva Elfie rips the game right out of their hands. Their quarterback is still on the turf pointing at his own line! Look the safety off, deliver on time, walk back to the huddle. A onlyfans model handles the intermediate zones like a shift he has worked a thousand times. There are never any cameras on the part of the day where a tiktoker lifts something heavy. Tonight there were about forty of them, and he lifted it anyway. The loneliest job in football is the one where making it earns you nothing, and Brooke Monk just made it again.

Nobody on that offensive line got the memo they had a songwriter booked for the afternoon. Two seconds of work, one flattened pocket. Freeze it at the stem -- Tate McRae does not bite on the double move, keeps his eyes on the hip, and turns to run before the receiver does. Clean snap, laces out, and the kick is pure. Miami Champagne-Corks is on the board, and there is nothing to complain about there -- that was textbook.

Madison Beer gets walked toward the tunnel by two assistants, helmet in one hand, still yelling over his shoulder at a bench that cannot hear him.

Third and 8, empty backfield, and Sky Bri takes him down before the route concept ever develops. Punt team. Grabbing on late and hoping for mercy -- the tv host has talked his way out of worse, but never out of a spot foul. Field position, then penalties, then the score. Miami Champagne-Corks has taken this game away from us one small mistake at a time.

The exchange from Ariana Grande to Brooke Monk happens at full speed with nobody breaking stride. That is timing you cannot install in a walkthrough. Off tackle to the right, Brooke Monk for eight. First down at the forty-one. He STUCK it in there! Not one inch of daylight anywhere on that line and Brooke Monk finds a way through it anyway! Ariana Grande converts. Seven points on the drive.

One step over the goal line and Brooke Monk drops into the dance whole internet already knows, hands low, feet blurring. Six teammates arrive and join it in a ragged line. The offensive line is two full beats behind and does not care. Seventy thousand people are doing it in the seats and none of them are doing it well.

The chains kept moving and nothing we tried slowed it down. Fourteen plays, seven minutes off the clock, and Miami Champagne-Corks finishes the drive with six.

Here it comes, and it GETS THERE! Sky Bri times the snap count perfectly and the play is dead before it starts! The bench EMPTIES! Tate McRae turns a broken play into the loudest fourteen seconds this building has heard all afternoon! The 33-yard extra point stopped being free a long time ago, but Brooke Monk still treats it like it is. Right down the pipe.

Twelve men on the field, and the internet celebrity was the spare one. Nobody on that sideline thought to tell him he was surplus. And the flag gets picked up. Miami Champagne-Corks keeps the touchdown, our sideline is screaming at the officials, and the scoreboard does not care one bit.

Sophie Rain climbs the pocket, checks it down to Madison Beer, wrapped up after a gain of five. They have one timeout left and Madison Beer is forcing them to spend it. Nothing outside the numbers, nothing near the boundary, nothing that stops that clock. Full speed, no glance sideways, not a single wasted motion. Whoever taught that songwriter to hand something off like that deserves a plaque.

Megan Fox takes a knee in victory formation one last time, purely for the aesthetic. Brooke Monk snaps her an imaginary ball. And here is the answer to our game The Newlywed Tailgate Game! Wilma Jean Scroggins of Ditch Water, Oklahoma, got it right. The question, let me remind you, was 'How long has that couple in row twelve been arguing about the same fumble?' The answer was of course nineteen years, and the fumble did not even happen in this stadium. Wilma Jean takes home a scrapbook of every argument ever settled by instant replay! Exactly one thing ruined this broadcast for me: somebody put decaf in the regular pot. I know who. Thanks for being with us. And now, 'MythBusters: Does the Elevator Close Button Do Anything.' Spoiler in hour three.

Matchday 3 — vs Cleveland Blank-Helmets

16-19 (L)

Beautiful key read. Ariana Grande sees the guard pull, runs the mesh point down, and meets the back before the handoff is even clean. We held them out of the end zone and it still costs us. Three for Cleveland Blank-Helmets, because the scoreboard does not hand out credit for good defense.

Sophie Rain read that front like a menu and ordered the one thing the kitchen could not refuse. This is why teams pay linemen real money. Sophie Rain drives his man five yards off the ball and Tate McRae gets a lane you could park a bus in. The songwriter shows up, does the whole job in eleven seconds, and gets back on the bus. Three points, no overtime.

Tate McRae spikes it, Elizabeth Hurley spikes it, and then every man in the end zone spikes something -- a towel, a glove, a mouthpiece, an entirely imaginary object. It is a spiking epidemic. Turf pellets are hanging in the air like smoke. Three officials stand at the edge of it and simply wait for the weather to pass.

THEY OWN THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE! Elizabeth Hurley is driving grown men three yards downfield on every single snap! Elizabeth Hurley keeps his eyes locked on the football and lets his feet do the arithmetic on their own. Sophie Rain could not have found a smaller window. Thirty-two yards is the film producer version of a task he could finish half asleep with one tool missing. Dead center.

Ball tucked, Elizabeth Hurley drops into a three-point stance facing the Cleveland Blank-Helmets bench and holds it. Just holds it. Their entire sideline is on the white line yelling. Mikayla Demaiter hauls him up by the belt and steers him away before the yellow comes out, and the crowd boos the peacemaking.

Four full seconds and not one hand near the quarterback facemask. Beyoncé anchored against the bull rush and never surrendered an inch of ground. Thirty-two yards is the philanthropist version of a task he could finish half asleep with one tool missing. Dead center.

Beyoncé spikes the ball so hard it comes off the turf and clears the crossbar behind him. He watches it go, arms out, genuinely surprised at himself. Eva Elfie sprints past and dives headfirst into the end zone paint for no reason at all. The stadium is a wall of noise before anybody remembers there is an extra point to kick.

He was beaten by a full step and it did not matter. Ariana Grande recovers, finds the ball late, and rakes it out at the catch point. That is the third field goal of the day for Cleveland Blank-Helmets. All those red zone stops, and we are still staring at nine points from a kicker.

Off the field. Megan Fox shakes hands with a side judge on the way up the tunnel. Halftime show: an aging rock act, three guitars, and a fireworks budget that got approved far too easily. And now, our halftime TV game show Garage Raiders! To win the entire contents of a stranger's garage, delivered at dawn, text BLITZ to 555-2308 and answer this question: 'What does every garage workbench drawer in America have in common?' The pace picks up the instant ball is fielded. Whatever they found in that locker room, it travels.

They went to the inside counter that time. Elizabeth Hurley was already sitting on it. Whatever the plan was, it is in the trash now. Sophie Rain gives him a chance and that is the whole requirement. Two men go up, Elizabeth Hurley comes down with it. Intercepted. Even the best film producer in the business has the day where the paperwork ends up on somebody else's desk.

Two-gap discipline from Ariana Grande: he holds his ground, sheds the double team late, and makes the tackle right on the football. Third and fourteen killed the drive, and the kicker finishes what the offense could not. Cleveland Blank-Helmets adds three and this becomes a chess match.

The ice hockey player showed up in the backfield before the running back did. In his line of work they call that beating the traffic. Reading a defense is hard. Reading a quarterback is harder. A ice hockey player did both on his day off and turned it into a touchdown. Sophie Rain jogs on, kicks it through, jogs off. If you blinked you missed the whole thing, and that is exactly the idea.

Mikayla Demaiter reaches the sideline, lifts the lid off the orange barrel, and empties the whole thing over the offensive coordinator with most of the game still left to play. Ice goes everywhere. The coordinator does not move, does not blink, and keeps signaling in the extra point personnel as though nothing has occurred. Brooke Monk hands him back his soaked call sheet and he takes it without looking up.

Splits the uprights. Cleveland Blank-Helmets settles for three, and we will take that trade every single time after where that drive started.

Tate McRae has both arms up asking for more, and this building is answering. The opposing quarterback cannot get a cadence out of his mouth.

Nobody on that offensive line got the memo they had a philanthropist booked for the afternoon. Two seconds of work, one flattened pocket. Yellow laundry deep in the secondary, and it is on Beyoncé. Pass interference, and the ball travels all the way down to the twenty. Screen pass, one missed tackle at the thirty, and Cleveland Blank-Helmets is gone. That is a fundamentals problem, and the fundamentals are ours to fix.

The internet celebrity runs a two-minute offense the way he runs a long afternoon: one problem at a time, no wasted motion, and the very last problem on that sheet is called WIN. Two minutes remaining in the half. Sophie Rain takes the water bottle, takes a long look at the call sheet, takes his time. Third and 9, five-man protection, Sophie Rain handles his man one on one and the completion moves the sticks.

Madison Beer works the handshake line and says all the right things. Mikayla Demaiter skips it entirely and heads for the tunnel. And here is the answer to our game show Garage Raiders! Hattie Cropsey of Cold Brook Corners, New York, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'What does every garage workbench drawer in America have in common?' The answer was of course batteries of unknown status and one very old key. Hattie therefore wins the entire contents of a stranger's garage, delivered at dawn! My headset picked up the coaches' channel for about eleven seconds in the third quarter. I am taking that to my grave. See you next week. In the meantime, enjoy 'Survivor: The Group Chat.' Somebody leaves every episode.

Matchday 4 — vs New Orleans Bag-Heads

27-26 (W)

Incomplete. Ariana Grande breaks it up on third down, and the punt unit starts to jog on. Four-man rush, nobody blitzed. Beyoncé wins a one-on-one in under two and a half seconds, and that is how you wreck a game plan. Fifty-one yards and it is good with room to spare. New Orleans Bag-Heads takes the lead back, and their kicker just woke that whole sideline up.

No highlight, no replay, no mention on the broadcast. The film producer spent three hours making sure a very expensive man never had to think about him once. Elizabeth Hurley stands with his hands on his hips at the 30, waiting on a man in a striped shirt and a television screen to decide his afternoon. The officials on the field ruled a completion for Elizabeth Hurley. The booth found the football moving. That is all it takes.

Perfect technique from Elizabeth Hurley -- he plays the ball, not the man, and there is not a flag anywhere on this field. It is up, and it is through. Three more for New Orleans Bag-Heads, and a two-possession game feels a whole lot different than a one-possession game.

OH COME ON! Mikayla Demaiter is halfway to the umpire to argue it and the yellow is already lying on the turf. You can see the frustration -- Mikayla Demaiter has his hands up before the flag even lands, because he knew the second he looked at the clock. Three trips to the microphone in five plays, and the ice hockey player has his name on the latest one. At some point the indiscipline stops being an accident.

Second and 14. Beyoncé with the tackle for loss, and that play call goes straight in the garbage. Our rush gets a hand up and misses by six inches. It is good anyway. Three for New Orleans Bag-Heads, and the block unit walks off shaking their heads.

Halftime. The coordinator upstairs is already on the headset with Brooke Monk's position group. True story: Brooke Monk once ran a full lap of the field at halftime, purely because sitting still was not an option. And now, our halftime TV game show Love Retention Pond! To win a paddleboat with one paddle and a great deal of optimism, text BLITZ to 555-2361 and answer this question: 'Can two people fall in love during a single rain delay?' The return unit sets its wall. The kick is on the way.

No good! Wide right from forty-eight, and the New Orleans Bag-Heads kicker knew it the instant it left his foot. Ball comes back to us at the spot of the kick. They will keep handing it to Tate McRae until that goal line moves. Two yards this time, and everybody in the building knows what is coming next. Twelve plays, eighty-one yards, and it ends with Tate McRae diving in with three defenders hanging off his shoulder pads. That is a drive. The coach called for two, and the internet celebrity answered it the way he answers a rush order at work: head down, no questions, into the end zone.

Tate McRae points one finger at the sky and holds it, helmet off, eyes shut, standing dead still while the stadium comes apart around him. Nobody touches him for four full seconds. Then Beyoncé wraps him up from behind and lifts him clean off the ground, and the noise doubles.

Right down the middle from thirty-four. New Orleans Bag-Heads caps a twelve-play march with three, and eight minutes came off that clock with it.

Textbook from Eva Elfie: he never goes for the body, he goes for the tomahawk on the throwing arm. Coaches run that clip on a loop. Credit the design here: two receivers crack the safeties, Sophie Rain throws it on rhythm, and Eva Elfie catches the ball with a convoy already in front of him. Hold is upright, the spot never moves an inch, and Elizabeth Hurley hits it flush. Nothing about that operation was rushed.

A stop was one snap away, and now Beyoncé has handed the other sideline field position it did nothing to earn. Six for New Orleans Bag-Heads. Nobody carried the crosser, and that was a walk-in from twelve yards out.

The songwriter lets the whole room stampede for the exit, waits one beat, and strolls out through the space they left behind. Watch the safety bite on the run fake -- that is all Sophie Rain needed. One high look, one window, Madison Beer sitting down in the back of the end zone. GOT HIM! Their linebacker meets Madison Beer in the hole and the two-point try dies right there on the stripe.

Madison Beer tucks the ball under his jersey, cradles the bump, and rocks it gently while walking the length of the end zone. Megan Fox follows with a hand on his back like a very concerned husband. The New Orleans Bag-Heads sideline is not amused. The referee already has the flag out of his belt.

Officials, coaches, equipment staff, everybody is out there trying to pry this apart, and Beyoncé is being dragged backwards by the jersey. Field position, then penalties, then the score. New Orleans Bag-Heads has taken this game away from us one small mistake at a time.

Sophie Rain finds the one seam left in a collapsing pocket, and by the time anybody redirects he is already sliding past the marker. Three defenders under it and only Sophie Rain actually played the football. Everybody else played the crowd. That is precisely how a Hail Mary gets caught.

Beyoncé plants the ball on the fifty like a flag. Madison Beer stands at attention. Megan Fox salutes the wrong direction. And here is the answer to our game show Love Retention Pond! Cindy Lou Ferebee of Turtle Wallow, North Carolina, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'Can two people fall in love during a single rain delay?' The answer was of course yes, twice, and both times were the same delay. Cindy Lou therefore wins a paddleboat with one paddle and a great deal of optimism! My evening in summary: talk, drink coffee, talk louder, spill the coffee, keep talking straight through it. Good night out there. Next: 'Below Deck: A Canoe on a Municipal Pond.' Tensions run high.

Matchday 5 — vs Minnesota Silver-Horns

22-27 (L)

Fingertips like that do not come from football practice. The songwriter does precision work all week and it showed up at the catch point. The songwriter clocked in, walked straight through the left tackle, and clocked the opposing quarterback out. Ten yards of paid overtime. Fifty-one yards and it is good with room to spare. Minnesota Silver-Horns takes the lead back, and their kicker just woke that whole sideline up.

One hand only, because the other one is occupied -- and for a movie actor/actress the other one is always occupied. Fourth and 6 at the 15, field goal unit on, Megan Fox converts from 33. Three points.

Elizabeth Hurley seals the edge and finishes the block on the ground. Gain of nine on the carry. Double team up to the linebacker, Tate McRae climbs to the second level, and the running back has not been touched behind the line all half. There are never any cameras on the part of the day where a songwriter lifts something heavy. Tonight there were about forty of them, and he lifted it anyway. The philanthropist has never once been thanked for the last step of anything. He puts it through and gets a pat on the helmet from the long snapper.

A ice hockey player lives and dies by timing, and he was a tenth of a second early on that one. Pass knocked down, drive stalled. Third and fourteen killed the drive, and the kicker finishes what the offense could not. Minnesota Silver-Horns adds three and this becomes a chess match.

BOOM! Ariana Grande comes off the edge untouched and puts the opposing quarterback in the dirt for a loss of nine! They have first and ten and no room to operate. Ariana Grande sheds the block at the line of scrimmage and wraps up the ball carrier before he can get out. Safety, two points, and we get the football back.

One step over the goal line and Ariana Grande drops into the dance whole internet already knows, hands low, feet blurring. Six teammates arrive and join it in a ragged line. The offensive line is two full beats behind and does not care. Seventy thousand people are doing it in the seats and none of them are doing it well.

Halftime. Tate McRae takes a knee by the door while a trainer refills the bottle. Intel: Tate McRae traded a game-worn jersey to an Minnesota Silver-Horns player for a pair of cleats. Still thinks she won it. And now, our halftime TV game show The Sixty-Four Cent Question! To win a coffee can full of quarters that have all been run over by a truck, text BLITZ to 555-2104 and answer this question: 'How many quarters are in a football game if you count the ones nobody enjoyed?' Here comes the kick to start the third. Hold on to something.

Twelve men on the field, and the internet celebrity was the spare one. Nobody on that sideline thought to tell him he was surplus. And the flag gets picked up. Minnesota Silver-Horns keeps the touchdown, our sideline is screaming at the officials, and the scoreboard does not care one bit.

PANCAKE! Elizabeth Hurley puts his man flat on his back and Madison Beer runs straight through the crater! A songwriter works to spec every day of the week, then lines up a yard off the ball. Seven men required, they had six. Elbows first, discussion afterwards. That is how a songwriter wins the last space in the supply closet, and it is how he just won that football.

You do not usually hire a ice hockey player for demolition, but that run play was condemned on contact four yards deep. Mikayla Demaiter was one body too many, and the umpire had him tagged before the football ever moved. Play action freezes our linebackers, the tight end slips out behind them, and Minnesota Silver-Horns scores with nobody in the picture. That is a bust, plain and simple.

They keep feeding Madison Beer between the tackles, and those linebackers are already a half step slower than they were in the first quarter. HOW did he get that off?! Sophie Rain hangs in a collapsing pocket with a rusher in his facemask, turns it loose at the last tick, and Madison Beer hauls it in for six! Sky Bri taps the point after through and this one is academic. Seven on the board.

Look at that sideline -- everybody waving both arms, the coach halfway onto the field, and Sophie Rain standing perfectly still while it all happens around him. Sophie Rain follows that block the way a car follows a snowplow. Somebody else clears it, he just keeps his foot down. Everybody in the building tracks the flight, nobody breathes, and then Sophie Rain hears the roar behind him. Good from 52.

Sophie Rain climbs the padding at the base of the goalpost and hangs there like a man escaping a flood. The flag is out before his second hand lands, and security arrives right behind it. Madison Beer is at the bottom pushing him higher, which is not helping anybody. Two officials and a very tired stadium employee talk him down.

Screen pass, one missed tackle at the thirty, and Minnesota Silver-Horns is gone. That is a fundamentals problem, and the fundamentals are ours to fix.

Eighty yards to cover and the internet celebrity sets off down the field the way he starts any long job: one end to the other, and nobody goes home until it is done. Clock stopped at 2:00. Sophie Rain now has the exact math in front of him: yards needed, plays available, timeouts left. The rest is arithmetic and nerve. Textbook rep. Sophie Rain sets, punches, resets the feet, and that edge rusher runs himself a yard past the launch point.

Elizabeth Hurley is still replaying third and four in her head. Eva Elfie is replaying a completely different one. And here is the answer to our game show The Sixty-Four Cent Question! Odell Ray Pankey of Muleshoe Bottom, Texas, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'How many quarters are in a football game if you count the ones nobody enjoyed?' The answer was of course six, and two of them happened during a commercial. Odell Ray therefore wins a coffee can full of quarters that have all been run over by a truck! Behind the scenes, I was told Eva Elfie works as an internet celebrity in the offseason. That would explain the hands. Good night. Next up: 'Property Brothers: They Argue the Entire Time and Nothing Gets Built.'

Matchday 6 — vs Denver Orange-Barrels

13-20 (L)

Look at the get-off from Mikayla Demaiter -- he is two yards upfield before the center's hand leaves the football. You cannot block that. Clean snap, laces out, and the kick is pure. Denver Orange-Barrels is on the board, and there is nothing to complain about there -- that was textbook.

Smart, disciplined football from Sophie Rain. He takes the boundary instead of the middle, because the middle of the field bleeds seconds. Getting yanked around by the collar is a normal Tuesday for the tiktoker, and he has learned to keep his feet moving until somebody official steps in. Their front four ran themselves eight yards past the football, and by the time the safety got downhill, Brooke Monk had already turned this into a chunk play.

False start, Beyoncé. Five yards, replay the down. Completion underneath from Beyoncé to Ariana Grande, wrapped up after the catch, and the offense hustles back to the line. Five-man pressure with a late twist inside, and nobody passes off the delayed linebacker. That one is not on Ariana Grande -- that is a protection call gone wrong. Megan Fox goes for the coffin corner and hits it. The gunner gets there first and downs it at the two, and the opposing offense is working out of a phone booth.

Megan Fox stacked the defender at the top of the stem, and once Sophie Rain let it go the only option left was an arm bar. Spot foul, thirty-five yards. The ugly part of the work is the part the movie actor/actress happens to be best at, and there is nothing in this sport uglier than three yards at the goal line. The pile stops moving and Megan Fox keeps churning his legs for another half yard anyway. That right there is the difference between three points and six. Through the uprights! Brooke Monk adds the point after and the lead grows by one.

Megan Fox digs a red challenge flag out of his own sock and throws it on his own touchdown. He signals for a review of himself, hands squared into a box, completely serious about it. The referee looks at the flag lying on the turf for a long moment and then simply walks away from it. Mikayla Demaiter picks it up and throws it again.

Our rush gets a hand up and misses by six inches. It is good anyway. Three for Denver Orange-Barrels, and the block unit walks off shaking their heads.

The tablets come out. Sky Bri and the quarterback are heads down over the coverage looks. Not many people know this: Sky Bri auditioned for a televised singing competition before football. The tape exists somewhere. And now, our halftime TV game show Antiques Roadshow Tailgate Edition! To win a foam finger from 1987 that has only three fingers left, text BLITZ to 555-0376 and answer this question: 'What is the appraised value of a 1987 foam finger with only three fingers?' The sidelines are stacked and standing. Kickoff.

The whole offensive line is pointing at him! Big men live for that, and Mikayla Demaiter just gave the entire unit something to howl about! The songwriter walked across the entire job site at a dead sprint, removed the one thing standing in the way, and strolled back like nothing happened. Second one of the half. Tate McRae is throwing from the short hash and that front has the passing lanes memorized now. Eva Elfie threads it between the numbers and the paint, and the football just lies down and goes to sleep inside the five.

Play action freezes our linebackers, the tight end slips out behind them, and Denver Orange-Barrels scores with nobody in the picture. That is a bust, plain and simple.

Tate McRae turns that corner like he had the door code. Their edge defender never got a hand anywhere near him. Tate McRae hears footsteps. He is already peeking at the safety before the ball arrives and it goes clean through his hands. Off the foot of Ariana Grande and that ball is DYING at the two! Pinned. Absolutely pinned in the shadow of their own goal post.

Twelve men on the field. Megan Fox jogs off shaking his head, and the penalty is exactly what it looked like. In his day job the philanthropist deals with customers. Today he has exactly one, and that customer is extremely unsatisfied.

Megan Fox gets hauled out of the middle of it along with a body from the other side. The flags offset, the consequences do not. Screen pass, one missed tackle at the thirty, and Denver Orange-Barrels is gone. That is a fundamentals problem, and the fundamentals are ours to fix.

OH MY GOODNESS, THE THUMP! Madison Beer arrives in the open field and you heard that one from the upper deck! THE BALL IS OUT -- and Madison Beer scoops it at a dead sprint! He does not even break stride on his way into the end zone! The internet celebrity got that job 97 percent done, which anywhere else on earth counts as finished and out here is worth precisely nothing.

Madison Beer gets the ball to the mascot, who spikes it far better than any professional athlete has ever spiked a football. Madison Beer stands back and applauds honestly. Megan Fox lifts the mascot onto his shoulders. This is now a mascot's game and everybody accepts it.

Third and 9, they pick up 6. Ariana Grande closes the door in space and the punt team comes on. Nowhere to go. Ariana Grande plugs the hole and that running back is swallowed up for no gain.

Sophie Rain slams her helmet into the bench. The bench wins. Eva Elfie does not look up. And here is the answer to our game Antiques Roadshow Tailgate Edition! Alvie Pillsbury of Cold Harbor Ditch, Maine, got it right. The question, let me remind you, was 'What is the appraised value of a 1987 foam finger with only three fingers?' The answer was of course six dollars, or nine if you can prove which two are missing. Alvie takes home a foam finger from 1987 that has only three fingers left! I stepped outside for air at halftime and locked myself out. A ball boy let me back in. I owe that kid. See you next time. Rolling right into 'Air Crash Investigation: My Attempt at a Paper Airplane.'

Matchday 7 — vs Chicago Quarterback-Graveyard

23-27 (L)

The rusher brought a spin, a rip and a plan. Elizabeth Hurley brought better feet, and that is the entire story of this drive. Single high safety, and Elizabeth Hurley attacked the one blade of grass that coverage shell cannot defend. Perfect timing on the shot play. Four broken tackles on the way in. If the movie actor/actress attacked a Monday the way he attacked that alley, he would own the company by Christmas. The 33-yard extra point stopped being free a long time ago, but Mikayla Demaiter still treats it like it is. Right down the pipe.

Timeout at 0:01 on the play clock, second one of the half. Sophie Rain keeps the football and the down, and they will reset the call. Look at the break -- Ariana Grande drops his weight at fifteen and comes out of it dead flat, and Sophie Rain already has the football in the air before his man turns his head. Watch the plant foot -- Ariana Grande puts it right beside the ball, no lean, no hook. Inside 40 that is a rehearsed motion, not a kick.

Ariana Grande mimes an enormous phone call from behind the goalpost, pointing at the ball, nodding seriously, holding up one finger to ask the crowd for quiet. Nobody quiets. He says a few words into his hand and hangs up. Eva Elfie takes the imaginary phone next and gets flagged for a call that lasted too long.

Penetration on the strong side by Mikayla Demaiter, the pulling guard grabs nothing but air, and the whole run concept dies on the hash marks. Third and fourteen killed the drive, and the kicker finishes what the offense could not. Chicago Quarterback-Graveyard adds three and this becomes a chess match.

Two false starts in three snaps. Beyoncé keeps turning back to the stands and the volume keeps climbing.

Back-shoulder, and Eva Elfie smells it coming. He plants, opens the hips, and knocks it away in the corner of the end zone. Splits the uprights. Chicago Quarterback-Graveyard settles for three, and we will take that trade every single time after where that drive started.

The horn sounds on the second quarter. Mikayla Demaiter pulls the helmet off before she even reaches the sideline. The pyro cues fire two full seconds early. Somebody in a production truck is having a rough afternoon. And now, our halftime TV game show Married at First Tailgate! To win a wedding cake topper of two people watching television, text BLITZ to 555-2316 and answer this question: 'What is the appropriate gift for a wedding held in a stadium parking lot?' The pace picks up the instant ball is fielded. Whatever they found in that locker room, it travels.

Same grip, same angle, a little more force each time. The songwriter handles that goal line exactly like a lid that refuses to come off. Big body, soft hands, zero complaints. Every crew has a songwriter exactly like that, and every crew would fall apart without him. Mikayla Demaiter works so fast that the crowd is still chanting about the touchdown when the football is already through.

The touchdown is barely over the line before Tate McRae is on one knee, ball held out in front of him, proposing to Ariana Grande. Ariana Grande covers his mouth with both hands, nods, then falls backward into the arms of three linemen. This is a bit they have run since training camp and it kills every single time.

Fifteen honest minutes of coverage undone by one snap. The ice hockey player knows all about work that only gets noticed the day it goes wrong. Field position, then penalties, then the score. Chicago Quarterback-Graveyard has taken this game away from us one small mistake at a time.

Somebody is going to sit through that clip in a defensive backs meeting on Wednesday, and Brooke Monk will not be the one squirming. Bounce it OUTSIDE! Brooke Monk sees the pursuit overrun the play, hits the sideline and dives at the pylon for the score! Ninety-something percent of these go through in this league. Eva Elfie just found the other bucket, and the one-point margin is now live.

Dunking the football over the crossbar has been illegal for a decade and Brooke Monk does it anyway, cleanly, two-handed, hanging for a beat. The flag comes out. The crowd does not care about the flag. Neither, from the look of him, does the head coach, who is very deliberately looking somewhere else.

The head coach grabs Eva Elfie by the shoulder pads and physically turns him toward the tunnel. That is what leadership looks like once everything has gone sideways. Back shoulder fade at the pylon, and Chicago Quarterback-Graveyard comes down with it over a defender who had inside leverage and nothing behind him. Perfectly placed, and this one is on us.

Man coverage with no help inside -- Sophie Rain saw that leverage from the huddle and cashed the free eight yards. LOOK at that pocket! Brooke Monk has built a living room back there and his quarterback is choosing a target at his own pace! THEY GOT A HAND ON IT! Brooke Monk is left standing on one leg as helmets pour through the middle of the line.

There are never any cameras on the part of the day where a songwriter lifts something heavy. Tonight there were about forty of them, and he lifted it anyway. Official review. The Mikayla Demaiter play. Both coordinators are out on the numbers with their call sheets rolled up in a fist. Ruling reversed. No touchdown. Mikayla Demaiter marked down at the half-yard line.

Fingertips like that do not come from football practice. The philanthropist does precision work all week and it showed up at the catch point. IT IS A HEADCOUNT! Somebody on this sideline needs a clicker, because the official counted twice before he threw it at Elizabeth Hurley! Ohhh, that one hurts. Chicago Quarterback-Graveyard runs the same counter they have run all afternoon, the backside end crashes again, and it is a touchdown.

Sophie Rain thanks the equipment guy twice. It is the only thing she can control tonight. Sky Bri does the same. And here is the answer to our game show Married at First Tailgate! Roscoe Tibbetts of Half Moon Landing, Louisiana, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'What is the appropriate gift for a wedding held in a stadium parking lot?' The answer was of course folding chairs, and plenty of them. Roscoe therefore wins a wedding cake topper of two people watching television! The press box elevator has been broken since August. Nine flights, every week, all season. My calves say hello. Good night out there. Stay tuned for 'Chopped: Whatever Is Left in the Break Room Fridge.'

Matchday 8 — vs New England Tuck-Rulers

27-47 (L)

The film producer clocked in, walked straight through the left tackle, and clocked the opposing quarterback out. Ten yards of paid overtime. That is a killer. Elizabeth Hurley turns late, the receiver runs through him, and the flag is in the air before the ball comes down. Second time in three drives. New England Tuck-Rulers punches it in from the two and our front seven is standing there with hands on knees.

This is the throw that separates arms. Sophie Rain has to beat a corner driving downhill from ten yards away, and he beats him with pure velocity. Across the field and UP THE SEAM! Megan Fox leads Ariana Grande perfectly and the nearest defender is eight yards behind him! Precision is precision in any trade. The songwriter hit his landmark on the exact step and the football was already waiting for him when he got there. Ariana Grande converts. Seven points on the drive.

Ariana Grande jogs to the sideline, taps the chain crew on the shoulder, and asks for a measurement on a ball that crossed the goal line by nine yards. Three men in orange vests look at each other, and then, because nobody tells them not to, they do it -- chain out, stake down, the entire ceremony. The down judge points one arm downfield: first down, and also a touchdown. Ariana Grande accepts the ruling with a small nod and jogs off like a man who simply needed to be sure.

Fifteen honest minutes of coverage undone by one snap. The songwriter knows all about work that only gets noticed the day it goes wrong. New England Tuck-Rulers goes deep on third and long and our safety arrives about a half second late. Fifty-two yards, and you can hear the concourse from here.

Coached exactly that way: the rusher goes for the football with his second hand, and Mikayla Demaiter does the hard part by picking it up on the run instead of falling on it. The 33-yard extra point stopped being free a long time ago, but Beyoncé still treats it like it is. Right down the pipe.

Mikayla Demaiter hurdles a downed defender on the way in, and once he is over the line he turns around and hurdles Ariana Grande for good measure. Ariana Grande was not warned. He was crouching to tie a shoe. This is on every highlight package in the country and it is not even the touchdown that is the story.

The songwriter went into that pile looking for a teammate and came out with an ejection. Great instincts, terrible timing. Back shoulder fade at the pylon, and New England Tuck-Rulers comes down with it over a defender who had inside leverage and nothing behind him. Perfectly placed, and this one is on us.

Thirteen minutes on the halftime clock. Beyoncé spends the first two of them under a towel. Halftime show: an aging rock act, three guitars, and a fireworks budget that got approved far too easily. And now, our halftime TV game show The Chase From Behind! To win a golf cart with a documented top speed of walking, text BLITZ to 555-0058 and answer this question: 'How fast can a man in a foam wedge hat cross a field before security takes an interest?' Both teams are back out of the tunnel. Second half, here we go.

Whatever a songwriter does all week apparently involves separating people from things they were holding. Sack, strip, ours. Second and goal from the two and they just punch it. Tate McRae behind the right guard, forward lean, football across the line. Hold is upright, the spot never moves an inch, and Beyoncé hits it flush. Nothing about that operation was rushed.

Ball goes under the arm, Tate McRae sprints straight to the New England Tuck-Rulers logo at midfield and plants both feet on it, arms wide. Their entire sideline comes off the bench at once. Officials sprint in. Megan Fox gets there first and drags him off the paint by the jersey while the home crowd screams for blood.

That is a violent arrival. Eva Elfie gets there at the same instant as the football and the receiver hears every bit of it -- they will not be throwing many more his way tonight. Five yards for one extra body. The songwriter is used to being the man they call when they need one more pair of hands, and tonight that was the whole problem. Ohhh, that one hurts. New England Tuck-Rulers runs the same counter they have run all afternoon, the backside end crashes again, and it is a touchdown.

A fistful of jersey and a hopeful look at the official -- the philanthropist held on the way you hold on to something you know is not yours. Watch the jet motion -- Beyoncé is supposed to run flat across the formation, and he is angling upfield. That flag is fair. HERE COMES ANOTHER ONE! The yellow is everywhere tonight, Sophie Rain is the latest name in the book, and this drive is going backwards faster than it can go forwards!

You do not usually hire a songwriter for demolition, but that run play was condemned on contact four yards deep. This one is on the headsets, not the player. Madison Beer was sent out for a package that got waved off two seconds too late. Field position, then penalties, then the score. New England Tuck-Rulers has taken this game away from us one small mistake at a time.

Count them up, there are TWELVE out there! Beyoncé never got the signal to come off, and that is five yards! Six for New England Tuck-Rulers. Nobody carried the crosser, and that was a walk-in from twelve yards out.

We held them out of the end zone and it still costs us. Three for New England Tuck-Rulers, because the scoreboard does not hand out credit for good defense.

The songwriter slips that tackler the same way he slips the one regular who wants to chat for twenty minutes at closing time. This was a numbers game and the offense won it before the snap: an extra hat at the point of attack and Tate McRae untouched from eleven yards out. NO GOOD?! THE EXTRA POINT?! Madison Beer pushes it and this stadium has no idea what it just watched.

Tate McRae reaches the sideline, lifts the lid off the orange barrel, and empties the whole thing over the offensive coordinator with most of the game still left to play. Ice goes everywhere. The coordinator does not move, does not blink, and keeps signaling in the extra point personnel as though nothing has occurred. Beyoncé hands him back his soaked call sheet and he takes it without looking up.

Twenty-two men guessed where that football was coming down and the songwriter was the only one who guessed right. Call it experience, call it luck, we have the ball. Contested catch by Madison Beer, twenty-six yards down the left side. First down at the forty.

Tate McRae rubs her face with both hands, hard, like that might change something. Ariana Grande tries it too. And here is the answer to our game The Chase From Behind! Georgette Knabenshue of Sideline, Utah, got it right. The question, let me remind you, was 'How fast can a man in a foam wedge hat cross a field before security takes an interest?' The answer was of course nine seconds, and security only jogs for the first four of them. Georgette takes home a golf cart with a documented top speed of walking! I ordered a sandwich in the second quarter. It arrived after the final whistle. Somebody had a rough night in that kitchen. See you at the next one. And now, 'Say Yes to the Dress: Finding Pants That Still Fit.' Tears expected.

Matchday 9 — vs Las Vegas Double-or-Nothing

25-35 (L)

Fifteen honest minutes of coverage undone by one snap. The songwriter knows all about work that only gets noticed the day it goes wrong. The chains kept moving and nothing we tried slowed it down. Fourteen plays, seven minutes off the clock, and Las Vegas Double-or-Nothing finishes the drive with six.

You do not pick up feet like that at a seminar. A tiktoker has been wriggling out of tight spots since long before anybody handed him a helmet. Brooke Monk went into that pile the way you wade into cold surf, and he came out the other side dragging two defenders across the line with him. Hold is upright, the spot never moves an inch, and Tate McRae hits it flush. Nothing about that operation was rushed.

Both linemen arrive first, which never happens, and they get to the end zone before the man who scored. Brooke Monk has to wait for three hundred pounds of guard to finish a shoulder shimmy that would embarrass a wedding reception. The crowd loses it. The center attempts a split and is helped up by two teammates and a trainer.

Eva Elfie has that receiver on a short leash, and the leash has not moved an inch since the opening kickoff. Sack number, oh, does it even matter now? Tate McRae gets there AGAIN, and their right tackle is still looking for his helmet. PRESSURE, PRESSURE, Tate McRae IS THERE! The opposing quarterback gets rid of it with a defender in his lap!

Illegal substitution. Mikayla Demaiter is caught halfway to the sideline at the snap, and the flag is out immediately. Back shoulder fade at the pylon, and Las Vegas Double-or-Nothing comes down with it over a defender who had inside leverage and nothing behind him. Perfectly placed, and this one is on us.

Fourth quarter, 6.1 yards a carry, and Sky Bri has won the leverage battle on rep after rep after rep. Sky Bri catches it at the boundary, taps the right, taps the left, and falls out. That is going to stand all day long. THAT IS GOOD, AND IT WAS NEVER ANYTHING ELSE! Sky Bri from 29 and that ball never wobbles once.

Halftime. Eva Elfie jogs up the tunnel with her chin strap already swinging loose. For what it is worth: Eva Elfie worked a concession stand in high school. Nachos, mostly. Says the smell of that cheese never left. And now, our halftime TV game show Big Brother-in-Law's Fantasy League! To win a fantasy draft board with every single name misspelled, text BLITZ to 555-0079 and answer this question: 'At what exact moment does a fantasy league become a lifelong grudge?' The pace picks up the instant ball is fielded. Whatever they found in that locker room, it travels.

The songwriter clocked in, walked straight through the left tackle, and clocked the opposing quarterback out. Ten yards of paid overtime. Ariana Grande jogs backwards asking the official what exactly he was supposed to do out there. The referee already has the microphone down. Ohhh, that one hurts. Las Vegas Double-or-Nothing runs the same counter they have run all afternoon, the backside end crashes again, and it is a touchdown.

That is a coverage disguise and a half. Mikayla Demaiter shows two-high, spins down into the flat, and the opposing quarterback throws it right to him. Mikayla Demaiter catches that the way you catch a can somebody tosses across a room -- casual, one hand, no ceremony, except a cornerback is hanging off his hip. Mikayla Demaiter treats a 31-yarder the way you treat a light switch. Flip it, walk off, three points.

Three receivers set the pylons in a triangle and Mikayla Demaiter bowls the football straight through them. Strike. All three go down. Sky Bri does the scoreboard signal with both hands while an official jogs in reaching for his flag and the whole bench falls over laughing.

Third and 6, Sophie Rain completes the shallow cross, and the receiver turns it up inside the sticks for the first down. This crowd wanted the bomb. Brooke Monk handed them a first down instead, and the first down is the thing that actually wins games. You can hear the strike all the way up in the press box, and Tate McRae watches his own football still climbing as it passes the 20.

NO SIR! Mikayla Demaiter gets a hand in at the last possible instant and that football hits the turf! Five yards for one extra body. The onlyfans model is used to being the man they call when they need one more pair of hands, and tonight that was the whole problem. Six for Las Vegas Double-or-Nothing. Nobody carried the crosser, and that was a walk-in from twelve yards out.

Hands inside, hips under, drive through. Elizabeth Hurley wins the leverage battle at the snap and that defensive tackle is now a spectator on the turf. GONE around the edge! Madison Beer feeds Ariana Grande in stride and there is nothing but open sideline waiting! That is a five-yard cushion on a 55-yarder. Ariana Grande did not just make it, he had another division of distance in the tank.

The entire defense pours onto the field and freezes in a squad photo behind the goalpost -- arms folded, chins down, absolutely nobody smiling. Ariana Grande kneels at the front holding the ball like a trophy. Sky Bri is late and slides into frame on his knees. The photo runs on the front page of a newspaper in a city three time zones away.

Two sidelines at midfield, punches out on the edges, and Brooke Monk identified by the officials. That costs yardage and it costs personnel. Field position, then penalties, then the score. Las Vegas Double-or-Nothing has taken this game away from us one small mistake at a time.

The internet celebrity sent that football forty yards across the field and it got there before the receiver did. Same-day service, no signature required. No time on the clock, one snap left in the season's worth of luck. Ariana Grande catches a touchdown inside a crowd of six bodies and this football game is over.

Ariana Grande reels Eva Elfie on an invisible fishing line, hand over hand, straining at the weight. Eva Elfie flops toward him across the end zone like something landed on a dock. The bench is doubled over. The referee waits with his hands on his hips like a man late for something.

Sophie Rain walks past the film room and refuses to look in. Eva Elfie looks in and keeps walking anyway. And here is the answer to our game Big Brother-in-Law's Fantasy League! Earline Puckerbrush of Draft Day, South Dakota, got it right. The question, let me remind you, was 'At what exact moment does a fantasy league become a lifelong grudge?' The answer was of course the ninth round, and the grudge outlives both participants. Earline takes home a fantasy draft board with every single name misspelled! Somebody left a full box of donuts in the booth at halftime. I asked no questions. There are no donuts now. See you next week. In the meantime, enjoy 'Survivor: The Group Chat.' Somebody leaves every episode.

Matchday 10 — vs Seattle Seismographs

10-18 (L)

HE GOT A PIECE OF IT! Beyoncé arrives with the football, and their receiver is still asking for a flag that is never coming! Second and long just got worse. Ariana Grande with the sack, seven yards back, and the chains are a memory. A false start backs them up five yards and it does not matter one bit. Good from forty-two, and Seattle Seismographs stretches the lead.

Back in the huddle, the onlyfans model owns it with the flat professional apology of somebody who has broken a thing at work and admitted it before anybody asked. Stone hands on first down. Eva Elfie is going to see that one on the flight home, over and over. Nobody covers leg strength in tiktoker training, and yet here is one flipping an entire field with a single strike.

Fourth and 4, they go to their number one, and Ariana Grande says absolutely not. Ball on the ground, ball back to us. Third and fourteen killed the drive, and the kicker finishes what the offense could not. Seattle Seismographs adds three and this becomes a chess match.

Madison Beer was in a footrace he had already lost, so he tried to slow the traffic. The officials do not accept that excuse.

Ariana Grande hit that pile like a dropped anchor, and the entire run game stopped moving right there. Fifty-one yards and it is good with room to spare. Seattle Seismographs takes the lead back, and their kicker just woke that whole sideline up.

Off to the locker room. Elizabeth Hurley is the loudest voice in that tunnel and everybody hears it. The field crew is racing the clock. Build a stage, play a show, and make every last cable disappear before the officials come back out. And now, our halftime TV game show Medium Rollers! To win a set of dice from a casino that became a carpet outlet, text BLITZ to 555-2241 and answer this question: 'How many times can a man say he is due before the dice hear him?' The teams come out side by side and nobody is looking at anybody.

Same grip, same angle, a little more force each time. The songwriter handles that goal line exactly like a lid that refuses to come off. Measurement on the field. It is a first down. Madison Beer with the carry, and the drive continues. No statistic exists for what the songwriter just did. He simply made sure nothing bad happened to anybody standing behind him, all afternoon long.

Four-man rush, nobody blitzed. Madison Beer wins a one-on-one in under two and a half seconds, and that is how you wreck a game plan. THEY CANNOT FIND HIM! Madison Beer is in his back pocket and their quarterback has come off him to the checkdown four straight snaps! It is up, and it is through. Three more for Seattle Seismographs, and a two-possession game feels a whole lot different than a one-possession game.

He is UNBLOCKABLE right now! Mikayla Demaiter is in the backfield again and their offensive coordinator just slammed the call sheet down! This place is SHAKING! Mikayla Demaiter has been living in that backfield all night and every soul in here knows it! That is the third field goal of the day for Seattle Seismographs. All those red zone stops, and we are still staring at nine points from a kicker.

The opposing quarterback held it one beat too long, and Tate McRae made him pay twice -- once for the loss, once for the football.

We held them out of the end zone and it still costs us. Three for Seattle Seismographs, because the scoreboard does not hand out credit for good defense.

Panic out on the sideline, dead calm in the huddle. The internet celebrity called it with a single tick to spare and did not so much as glance back at the clock. You do not pick up feet like that at a seminar. A internet celebrity has been wriggling out of tight spots since long before anybody handed him a helmet. Sophie Rain gets every bit of that ball, and the trajectory tells you at the 30 that it is going to clear with room to spare.

Two linemen plant themselves on the goal line with their arms straight up as uprights, and Eva Elfie snaps the ball back through his legs. Sophie Rain kicks it clean between them and holds the follow-through, one leg up, chin high. The actual kicker is twenty yards away with his actual holder, waiting to do this for real. Both officials signal the imaginary kick good before they can stop themselves.

Everybody dives and nobody comes out with it except the songwriter. Some people are simply built for the bottom of a pile. OVER THE TOP! Madison Beer goes airborne from the one and comes down with the nose of the football across the plane -- touchdown! Big touchdown, big celebration, and then the onlyfans model quietly comes on to file the paperwork. Point is good.

Sophie Rain takes the podium and answers every question in four words. Megan Fox does not take the podium at all. And here is the answer to our game show Medium Rollers! Verlene Tolliver of Bootjack Springs, Nevada, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'How many times can a man say he is due before the dice hear him?' The answer was of course three, and the fourth time is no longer a habit but a personality. Verlene therefore wins a set of dice from a casino that became a carpet outlet! I tried to take notes in the fourth quarter and produced two pages of pure scribble. The archive will not thank me. Thanks for watching with us. Coming up: 'Cake Boss: A Birthday Cake for Someone Whose Name Nobody Can Spell.'

Matchday 11 — vs Pittsburgh Dish-Towels

23-34 (L)

Forty yards on the return and it takes three of them to finally put Madison Beer on the ground! Our offense takes over near midfield. That football went through Madison Beer like a screen door. Nine times out of ten he squeezes it, and this was the tenth. Sky Bri punts, no return, ball spotted at the two-yard line.

Fourth and 4, they go to their number one, and Beyoncé says absolutely not. Ball on the ground, ball back to us. Nobody on that offensive line got the memo they had a internet celebrity booked for the afternoon. Two seconds of work, one flattened pocket. Clean snap, laces out, and the kick is pure. Pittsburgh Dish-Towels is on the board, and there is nothing to complain about there -- that was textbook.

This is the value of travel coverage: Eva Elfie follows him everywhere, so the game plan they built all week is now scrap paper. PICKED OFF! Beyoncé jumps that route like he called it in their huddle himself! Two high pre-snap that rolled to one high after the motion. Sophie Rain read it, held the free safety with his eyes and threw it to grass. Beyoncé did the rest of the work. Watch the design: two receivers clear out the short zone, Sophie Rain holds the safety with his eyes, and Tate McRae walks into a vacated end zone.

Beyoncé reaches the sideline, lifts the lid off the orange barrel, and empties the whole thing over the offensive coordinator with most of the game still left to play. Ice goes everywhere. The coordinator does not move, does not blink, and keeps signaling in the extra point personnel as though nothing has occurred. Brooke Monk hands him back his soaked call sheet and he takes it without looking up.

Eva Elfie met that running back in a phone booth, and there was only ever room for one of them. Second and long just got worse. Eva Elfie with the sack, seven yards back, and the chains are a memory. Fifty-one yards and it is good with room to spare. Pittsburgh Dish-Towels takes the lead back, and their kicker just woke that whole sideline up.

Play action freezes our linebackers, the tight end slips out behind them, and Pittsburgh Dish-Towels scores with nobody in the picture. That is a bust, plain and simple.

In the tunnel. Sophie Rain takes a shove of encouragement from a teammate and shoves one back. Two hundred flag twirlers and one gust of wind. We are watching physics happen live. And now, our halftime TV game show Iron Chef Crock Pot Division! To win a nine-quart crock pot with the lid from a completely different crock pot, text BLITZ to 555-0451 and answer this question: 'How many crock pots is officially too many crock pots?' It is a brand new game from here, and the kickoff proves it.

The separation was there, the throw was there, the catch was not. Brooke Monk tugs his gloves tight and jogs back to the numbers. Mikayla Demaiter punts from his own 30. The ball comes down at their 12. Fair catch, no return.

Five yards marched off. Sophie Rain was the twelfth man, and a third and 6 just turned into third and 1 for them. Field position, then penalties, then the score. Pittsburgh Dish-Towels has taken this game away from us one small mistake at a time.

Third and one and they keep it on the ground. Madison Beer slides off the double team and stretches the football over the goal line. Everything on this drive now rides on one frame of tape. Ariana Grande is on the sideline, helmet off, eyes locked on the big board. The replay runs four times on the big board, and four times this crowd gets a little louder for Ariana Grande. The tv host has made that same small motion ten thousand times. Number ten thousand and one sails right of the upright.

Sack number, oh, does it even matter now? Sky Bri gets there AGAIN, and their right tackle is still looking for his helmet. Sky Bri lost the deep third, panicked at the catch point and got his hand in early. That is a spot foul every single week. Screen pass, one missed tackle at the thirty, and Pittsburgh Dish-Towels is gone. That is a fundamentals problem, and the fundamentals are ours to fix.

Interception, Beyoncé, at the 40. Our offense comes back out with a short field and a live crowd. Beyoncé pulls to the right, logs the linebacker, and the run hits the alley for eight. The punt team already had one foot on the field. Tate McRae sends them back to the bench with three points instead.

The songwriter showed up in the backfield before the running back did. In his line of work they call that beating the traffic. Twelve men on the field, and the songwriter was the spare one. Nobody on that sideline thought to tell him he was surplus. Ohhh, that one hurts. Pittsburgh Dish-Towels runs the same counter they have run all afternoon, the backside end crashes again, and it is a touchdown.

Look the safety off, deliver on time, walk back to the huddle. A internet celebrity handles the intermediate zones like a shift he has worked a thousand times. The ball pops out of that pile like a cork out of water, and Ariana Grande is underneath with his hands already up. Miracles need witnesses, and there are 70,000 of them on their feet.

The ball goes into the stands on a rope, twenty rows deep, and the scrum for it delays the extra point. Ariana Grande watches two grown men in the same jersey wrestle over it. A kid ends up with it somehow. Ariana Grande points at the kid, and the kid points back, and that is the shot that runs all week.

Beyoncé is soaked through and does not change. Sky Bri changed in ninety seconds and is already outside. And here is the answer to our game Iron Chef Crock Pot Division! Sylvester Bopp of Maple Ditch, Vermont, got it right. The question, let me remind you, was 'How many crock pots is officially too many crock pots?' The answer was of course nine, and at ten the breaker in the garage files a formal complaint. Sylvester takes home a nine-quart crock pot with the lid from a completely different crock pot! Between quarters I attempted a wall sit behind the monitors. My producer now believes I am unwell. Good night from the booth. Up next: 'The Bachelorette: Twelve Guys Who All Own the Same Jacket.'

Matchday 12 — vs Dallas Hole-In-The-Roof

23-42 (L)

Nothing in the training of a film producer covers a hundred men swinging at midfield, and yet there he is in the thick of it, getting thrown out. Screen pass, one missed tackle at the thirty, and Dallas Hole-In-The-Roof is gone. That is a fundamentals problem, and the fundamentals are ours to fix.

OH, THAT IS A GIFT AND HE UNWRAPPED IT! Tate McRae with the pick, and the whole sideline is coming over the bench! Off tackle it is, the tight end seals the edge, and Tate McRae is into the second level untouched! Tate McRae strikes it, both arms go straight up behind the goalposts, and this crowd gets the three points it came down here for.

Two hours of heavy physical labor, no applause, no lunch break -- the philanthropist is having the most familiar afternoon of his entire life. Zero margin, no second try, and a white line that does not negotiate. The philanthropist has better footwork than most people manage getting out of a packed elevator. The drive dies at the 12, but Beyoncé makes sure it was not a wasted trip down the field.

Both linemen arrive first, which never happens, and they get to the end zone before the man who scored. Beyoncé has to wait for three hundred pounds of guard to finish a shoulder shimmy that would embarrass a wedding reception. The crowd loses it. The center attempts a split and is helped up by two teammates and a trainer.

That is a violent arrival. Madison Beer gets there at the same instant as the football and the receiver hears every bit of it -- they will not be throwing many more his way tonight. Run the tape back on the substitution: Tate McRae steps in, the call changes, and nobody waves him back. That is the whole penalty in one clip. Second time in three drives. Dallas Hole-In-The-Roof punches it in from the two and our front seven is standing there with hands on knees.

HE BURIED HIM! Elizabeth Hurley drove him fifteen yards downfield and finished him flat on his back inside the numbers, and Tate McRae is STILL running! Jet sweep to the right, Tate McRae on the handoff, gain of nine to the thirty-two. Nobody hires a movie actor/actress for his right leg. Fifty-four yards later, somebody probably should. Straight through, and that sideline detonates.

In from the cold. Elizabeth Hurley has turf pellets packed into every seam of that uniform. Small detail: Elizabeth Hurley tips the equipment staff after every road game. Cash. Every time. Nobody ever asked Elizabeth Hurley to. And now, our halftime TV game show Wheel of Fourth and Fortune! To win a lifetime supply of mustard packets that have all already been opened, text BLITZ to 555-0117 and answer this question: 'How many chicken wings are left in a fifty-piece order after four hours of tailgating?' Out of the tunnel. Helmets on, chin straps buckled, no more talking.

There is the CREASE! Madison Beer bounces off the seal and gets all the way to the numbers before the safety can close! The coverage was fine and the throw was ordinary, and Madison Beer turned the whole thing into a chunk play by himself. Madison Beer throws it away. Second and 10 becomes third and 10. This is the hidden yardage that decides football games. Madison Beer just moved the line of scrimmage 58 net yards without an offensive snap.

IT IS A HEADCOUNT! Somebody on this sideline needs a clicker, because the official counted twice before he threw it at Tate McRae! Dallas Hole-In-The-Roof goes deep on third and long and our safety arrives about a half second late. Fifty-two yards, and you can hear the concourse from here.

There must be a training manual for being a tv host, and page one apparently says jump the out route right at the sticks. Sky Bri pulled, found the only defender who actually mattered, and put him on skates. Madison Beer handled the easy part after that. GET THE TAPE MEASURE OUT! Madison Beer from 56 and there was never a question after the first bounce of the crowd noise.

Ohhh, that one hurts. Dallas Hole-In-The-Roof runs the same counter they have run all afternoon, the backside end crashes again, and it is a touchdown.

The internet celebrity sent that football forty yards across the field and it got there before the receiver did. Same-day service, no signature required. Some quarterbacks force it into a crowd. Brooke Monk just picks up the coupon the defense left on the table. FIFTY-FOUR YARDS AND HE HAS THE LEG! Tate McRae drills it and this place comes UNGLUED!

Fifteen honest minutes of coverage undone by one snap. The philanthropist knows all about work that only gets noticed the day it goes wrong. Six for Dallas Hole-In-The-Roof. Nobody carried the crosser, and that was a walk-in from twelve yards out.

HE GOT A PIECE OF IT! Eva Elfie arrives with the football, and their receiver is still asking for a flag that is never coming! Hear that? Brooke Monk gets home in two seconds flat, and now they have to hand us the football on a free kick from their own twenty!

A conga line forms out of nowhere: Brooke Monk at the front, Elizabeth Hurley on his hips, and by the end of the end zone there are nine men in it including a trainer who should absolutely know better. It snakes past the goalpost and back. The head coach is on the sideline with both hands over his face, laughing.

The songwriter clocked in, walked straight through the left tackle, and clocked the opposing quarterback out. Ten yards of paid overtime. Ariana Grande jogs backwards asking the official what exactly he was supposed to do out there. The referee already has the microphone down. Field position, then penalties, then the score. Dallas Hole-In-The-Roof has taken this game away from us one small mistake at a time.

The internet celebrity runs a two-minute offense the way he runs a long afternoon: one problem at a time, no wasted motion, and the very last problem on that sheet is called WIN. The internet celebrity spent two hours handling the worst customer in the building, and the guy is walking away with absolutely nothing to show for it. Madison Beer buys the extra beat, climbs the pocket, and puts enough air under it to let the route develop. Sophie Rain boxes out at the pylon and takes it at the highest point in the sky.

The team has one final bit saved for exactly this: Sophie Rain and Elizabeth Hurley shake hands in absurd slow motion, hold it, then the entire offense collapses to the turf around them in a choreographed heap. Eleven men down, two standing. The referee holds the ball and waits for the dead to rise. They take their time about it, and the stadium does not stop screaming once.

Elizabeth Hurley kicks an empty Gatorade cup down the sideline. It travels four feet. Somehow that is worse. And here is the answer to our game Wheel of Fourth and Fortune! Deloris Snavely of Gravy Boat, Ohio, got it right. The question, let me remind you, was 'How many chicken wings are left in a fifty-piece order after four hours of tailgating?' The answer was of course nine, and two of those are legally celery. Deloris takes home a lifetime supply of mustard packets that have all already been opened! Confession: I texted a friend score prediction before kickoff. I missed it by nineteen points. The message has been deleted. That is our broadcast. Coming up: 'Iron Chef: Secret Ingredient Is Whatever Was on Sale.'

Matchday 13 — vs Green Bay Shareholders

16-29 (L)

Not one yard. The songwriter met the ball carrier in the hole, and their run game would like to file a complaint. Our rush gets a hand up and misses by six inches. It is good anyway. Three for Green Bay Shareholders, and the block unit walks off shaking their heads.

Sack, strip, recovery. Tate McRae does all three inside of two seconds, and this drive is dead on arrival. Yards after contact are just overtime, and the songwriter has never once turned down overtime. Through the uprights! Madison Beer adds the point after and the lead grows by one.

Tate McRae sets the ball down on the pylon, backs up ten yards, and lines it up like a putt. He reads the break. He actually reads the break. Megan Fox tends the imaginary flag while the referee walks over with a flag of a very different kind.

Loss of four. Eva Elfie makes the stop, the chains do not move, and their sideline is already talking about field goal range. A false start backs them up five yards and it does not matter one bit. Good from forty-two, and Green Bay Shareholders stretches the lead.

Elizabeth Hurley plucked that thing out of the air with the calm of somebody taking mail out of his own box. Nothing hurried about it at all. Off the back shoulder, off the fingertips, off to third down. Elizabeth Hurley shakes his head all the way back to the line. The onlyfans model put so much into that swing you half expect the football to file a complaint. Sixty-two yards, no return, good night.

BLOWN UP IN THE BACKFIELD! Mikayla Demaiter shoots the A-gap and drops him four yards behind the line of scrimmage! Mikayla Demaiter folded that pocket like a lawn chair, and the opposing quarterback never saw the ceiling coming down. Right down the middle from thirty-four. Green Bay Shareholders caps a twelve-play march with three, and eight minutes came off that clock with it.

Halftime. Mikayla Demaiter pours an entire bottle of water down the back of her neck. The headliner is singing to a backing track. Everyone knows. Nobody minds. That is the arrangement. And now, our halftime TV game show Survivor Upper Deck! To win a pair of binoculars focused permanently on the concession line, text BLITZ to 555-0141 and answer this question: 'How many people in the upper deck have ever actually seen the ball?' Third quarter. Fresh downs, fresh script, same scoreboard.

The internet celebrity took one look at the plan, decided it was garbage, and rewrote the whole thing in nine seconds with eleven people waiting on him. Standard workday. That defender went down like a stack of empty crates, and Sophie Rain never so much as broke stride. The drive dies at the 12, but Madison Beer makes sure it was not a wasted trip down the field.

NO SIR! Eva Elfie gets a hand in at the last possible instant and that football hits the turf! This place is SHAKING! Beyoncé has been living in that backfield all night and every soul in here knows it! Clean snap, laces out, and the kick is pure. Green Bay Shareholders is on the board, and there is nothing to complain about there -- that was textbook.

Give a songwriter one clean lane and a big man clearing the way, and suddenly he looks like he has been doing this instead of his actual job. You can hear the strike all the way up in the press box, and Tate McRae watches his own football still climbing as it passes the 20.

IT IS A HEADCOUNT! Somebody on this sideline needs a clicker, because the official counted twice before he threw it at Madison Beer! Play action freezes our linebackers, the tight end slips out behind them, and Green Bay Shareholders scores with nobody in the picture. That is a bust, plain and simple.

The guard pulls, and there it is -- Eva Elfie runs the width of the backfield and kicks the edge defender all the way into the numbers. That is a five-yard cushion on a 55-yarder. Tate McRae did not just make it, he had another division of distance in the tank.

Whole receiving corps drops into a photo-booth strip: four different poses in four seconds, Tate McRae switching each one, everybody matching. Somebody in the group is a half beat behind on all four and it is, as usual, a lineman who followed them in. The gag ends with all of them face down on the turf and the crowd absolutely gone.

Nothing in the training of a songwriter covers a hundred men swinging at midfield, and yet there he is in the thick of it, getting thrown out. Field position, then penalties, then the score. Green Bay Shareholders has taken this game away from us one small mistake at a time.

He was beaten by a full step and it did not matter. Tate McRae recovers, finds the ball late, and rakes it out at the catch point. We held them out of the end zone and it still costs us. Three for Green Bay Shareholders, because the scoreboard does not hand out credit for good defense.

Eighty yards to cover and the internet celebrity sets off down the field the way he starts any long job: one end to the other, and nobody goes home until it is done. Games get won right here, in the two feet of grass on either side of the football. And tonight Sophie Rain is the reason this offense can do whatever it feels like.

Megan Fox walks past the film room and refuses to look in. Tate McRae looks in and keeps walking anyway. And here is the answer to our game Survivor Upper Deck! Maybelle Snodgrass of Nosebleed, Wyoming, got it right. The question, let me remind you, was 'How many people in the upper deck have ever actually seen the ball?' The answer was of course six, and two of those were looking at a bird. Maybelle takes home a pair of binoculars focused permanently on the concession line! During the halftime show I tried to name every instrument in the marching band. I got to nine and quit. Thanks for spending the evening with us. Coming up: 'Undercover Boss: The Guy Who Refills the Printer.'

Matchday 14 — vs Buffalo Table-Breakers

19-37 (L)

Second and 14. Madison Beer with the tackle for loss, and that play call goes straight in the garbage. Third and 8, empty backfield, and Madison Beer takes him down before the route concept ever develops. Punt team. That is the third field goal of the day for Buffalo Table-Breakers. All those red zone stops, and we are still staring at nine points from a kicker.

He played the eyes the entire way. Sky Bri never looked at the receiver -- he broke on the shoulder turn and the football came to him. Yards after catch are the most valuable yards in this sport, and Sky Bri is collecting them by the fistful tonight. No wind, no pressure off the edge, no doubt from Sky Bri. Down the middle from 36.

This place is SHAKING! Elizabeth Hurley has been living in that backfield all night and every soul in here knows it! The film producer was handed the single hardest assignment on this field and treated it like an ordinary shift. No drama, no safety help, no completions. A false start backs them up five yards and it does not matter one bit. Good from forty-two, and Buffalo Table-Breakers stretches the lead.

Second and 6, Eva Elfie pancakes the three-technique, and the run goes for eleven before anybody touches the ball carrier. Power concept, backside guard pulling, play side down blocks all working in unison. Tate McRae is the last piece of it and he arrives with his hat on the correct shoulder. Madison Beer gets it batted down at the line of scrimmage. Incomplete, third and 6. Prime time, road crowd, and Ariana Grande just backed them all the way up to their own goal line. Our sideline is standing on the bench.

Beautiful key read. Madison Beer sees the guard pull, runs the mesh point down, and meets the back before the handoff is even clean. Twelve men on the field, and the songwriter was the spare one. Nobody on that sideline thought to tell him he was surplus. Buffalo Table-Breakers goes deep on third and long and our safety arrives about a half second late. Fifty-two yards, and you can hear the concourse from here.

In the tunnel. Megan Fox takes a shove of encouragement from a teammate and shoves one back. Backstage: the artist's manager is arguing about the length of the runway. The runway is not moving. And now, our halftime TV game show Carport Hunters! To win a carport, fully disassembled, in the back of somebody's truck, text BLITZ to 555-2419 and answer this question: 'How many parking spaces does one tailgate legally occupy?' Second half. Two quarters left and this one has plenty left in it.

One hand, and the wrong hand at that. Brooke Monk takes that football with the off hand, twelve feet in the air, with his momentum carrying him away from the throw. The tiktoker shows up, does the whole job in eleven seconds, and gets back on the bus. Three points, no overtime.

Brooke Monk mimes lifting an enormous, impossibly heavy trophy off the turf -- knees bent, back straight, veins popping. It takes him four seconds to get it overhead. Eva Elfie spots him like a training partner. They parade it around the end zone and hand it, ceremonially, to the referee, who does not accept it.

Incomplete. Sky Bri breaks it up on third down, and the punt unit starts to jog on. Megan Fox was one body too many, and the umpire had him tagged before the football ever moved. Second time in three drives. Buffalo Table-Breakers punches it in from the two and our front seven is standing there with hands on knees.

The tv host will not appear anywhere on the stat sheet, but he just removed a 320-pound obstruction from the work area and nobody even thanked him. Madison Beer sells the mesh and lets it go flat, and the entire defensive front is running the wrong direction. The punt team already had one foot on the field. Ariana Grande sends them back to the bench with three points instead.

Nothing in the training of a tv host covers a hundred men swinging at midfield, and yet there he is in the thick of it, getting thrown out. The chains kept moving and nothing we tried slowed it down. Fourteen plays, seven minutes off the clock, and Buffalo Table-Breakers finishes the drive with six.

OH, THE BALL IS OUT! Sky Bri takes the arm on the way down and the football is loose -- AND WE HAVE IT! Two men, one football, one very small window. The tv host makes that exchange the way you hand somebody a full mug on a moving train. One wobble and it is a disaster, and there was no wobble. Watch the plant foot -- Megan Fox puts it right beside the ball, no lean, no hook. Inside 40 that is a rehearsed motion, not a kick.

The linemen have been waiting all year for this. All five of them wall up in the end zone and hit a shoulder-roll wave down the line, big men moving in sequence like a slow tide. Megan Fox stands to the side and simply applauds. This is their moment and everybody in the building knows it.

The songwriter clocked in, walked straight through the left tackle, and clocked the opposing quarterback out. Ten yards of paid overtime. A stop was one snap away, and now Tate McRae has handed the other sideline field position it did nothing to earn. Ohhh, that one hurts. Buffalo Table-Breakers runs the same counter they have run all afternoon, the backside end crashes again, and it is a touchdown.

That is a violent arrival. Mikayla Demaiter gets there at the same instant as the football and the receiver hears every bit of it -- they will not be throwing many more his way tonight. Splits the uprights. Buffalo Table-Breakers settles for three, and we will take that trade every single time after where that drive started.

The internet celebrity runs a two-minute offense the way he runs a long afternoon: one problem at a time, no wasted motion, and the very last problem on that sheet is called WIN. The internet celebrity spends all week doing the part of the job nobody ever puts on a poster. Six points says they remember his name tonight. Hold is upright, the spot never moves an inch, and Mikayla Demaiter hits it flush. Nothing about that operation was rushed.

Megan Fox pulls the jersey off and leaves it inside out on the floor. Tate McRae folds her anyway. Pure habit. And here is the answer to our game show Carport Hunters! Emmett Lloyd Rumbaugh of Painted Post Junction, Oregon, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'How many parking spaces does one tailgate legally occupy?' The answer was of course one, spiritually, and four in practice. Emmett Lloyd therefore wins a carport, fully disassembled, in the back of somebody's truck! I brought gloves to the booth tonight. I cannot work the clicker with them on. So I brought gloves for nothing. See you next week. In the meantime, enjoy 'Survivor: The Group Chat.' Somebody leaves every episode.

Matchday 15 — vs Philadelphia Pole-Greasers

12-29 (L)

Third and fourteen killed the drive, and the kicker finishes what the offense could not. Philadelphia Pole-Greasers adds three and this becomes a chess match.

They wanted the seam. Madison Beer took the seam, took the football, and took eleven yards back the other way before the whistle. The beauty of it is that Madison Beer spins away from the pursuit, not into it. Turn the other way and that is a two-yard loss. The songwriter shows up, does the whole job in eleven seconds, and gets back on the bus. Three points, no overtime.

The entire defense pours onto the field and freezes in a squad photo behind the goalpost -- arms folded, chins down, absolutely nobody smiling. Madison Beer kneels at the front holding the ball like a trophy. Sky Bri is late and slides into frame on his knees. The photo runs on the front page of a newspaper in a city three time zones away.

Look at the get-off from Madison Beer -- he is two yards upfield before the center's hand leaves the football. You cannot block that. Second and long just got worse. Madison Beer with the sack, seven yards back, and the chains are a memory. Fifty-one yards and it is good with room to spare. Philadelphia Pole-Greasers takes the lead back, and their kicker just woke that whole sideline up.

Watch the neck snap back on the replay. Madison Beer keeps churning through it, which is precisely why the yardage gets added on top. Madison Beer has to climb that pocket and build himself a throwing lane. Flat-footed, off the low platform, that is a gift to the defensive front. The songwriter sets that ball down at the two-yard line, tidies up after himself, and hands the opposing offense the worst assignment of their week.

The tv host shut that gap the way he shuts up shop at the end of a shift: everything locked, nobody getting in. A false start backs them up five yards and it does not matter one bit. Good from forty-two, and Philadelphia Pole-Greasers stretches the lead.

The trainers get to work fast. Ariana Grande is up on the table with that hamstring already. The stage lift is stuck at half height and the singer is committing to it anyway. That is professionalism. And now, our halftime TV game show Love Retention Pond! To win a paddleboat with one paddle and a great deal of optimism, text BLITZ to 555-2361 and answer this question: 'Can two people fall in love during a single rain delay?' Back out. The offense that never found a rhythm gets a completely clean start.

The pocket is shrinking on every snap now, and Tate McRae is the reason the opposing quarterback keeps checking the rush before he checks the coverage.

HE GOT A PIECE OF IT! Mikayla Demaiter arrives with the football, and their receiver is still asking for a flag that is never coming! Clean snap, laces out, and the kick is pure. Philadelphia Pole-Greasers is on the board, and there is nothing to complain about there -- that was textbook.

BOOM, Brooke Monk bounces off the first tackler at the twenty-two, spins away from the second, and the last man with an angle is already out of the picture! The hold spun a half turn late, Megan Fox adjusted, and the adjustment is what killed it. Ball dies right of the upright. Great play, terrible arithmetic. Brooke Monk gains 22 and hands 15 of them straight back with the celebration.

BOTH BENCHES ARE EMPTY! Bodies pouring onto the field around midfield, and Ariana Grande is dead center in the pile. Play action freezes our linebackers, the tight end slips out behind them, and Philadelphia Pole-Greasers scores with nobody in the picture. That is a bust, plain and simple.

Third and eleven, one-handed grab by Ariana Grande for eighteen. First down at the thirty-seven. Thirty-two yards is the songwriter version of a task he could finish half asleep with one tool missing. Dead center.

Ariana Grande points one finger at the sky and holds it, helmet off, eyes shut, standing dead still while the stadium comes apart around him. Nobody touches him for four full seconds. Then Brooke Monk wraps him up from behind and lifts him clean off the ground, and the noise doubles.

Ohhh, that one hurts. Philadelphia Pole-Greasers runs the same counter they have run all afternoon, the backside end crashes again, and it is a touchdown.

BOOM! Elizabeth Hurley comes off the edge untouched and puts the opposing quarterback in the dirt for a loss of nine! Press at the line, hip to hip down the numbers -- Elizabeth Hurley takes the release away and the throw never leaves the quarterback's hand. Right down the middle from thirty-four. Philadelphia Pole-Greasers caps a twelve-play march with three, and eight minutes came off that clock with it.

Megan Fox keeps saying it was on her. Madison Beer keeps saying it was not. Neither one is listening. I spilled chili on my notes in the second quarter. Good news, the fourth-down chart survived. Bad news, everything else. Thanks for tuning in. Stay with us for 'Extreme Home Makeover: Reorganizing the Silverware Tray.'
