Pre-season

Buckle up, pull your visor down, and clench everything you've got because tonight we are NOT talking about some pickup game at the park. Hell no. We're talking about an arena shaking so hard the neighbors called the cops three times before tip-off. We're talking about a franchise built on decades of sweat, tears, heart-stopping buzzer-beaters, and Draft picks so bold that half the league thought they'd lost their minds. And yet, here they are, back and hungrier than ever. The team with no name, baby! Okay, let's talk about the boss. Because on this team, there's one alpha, and everybody knows it. Barack Obama. Standing at 185 cm, a body built for basketball, and a basketball IQ that borders on indecent. When this man catches the rock, defenders back up instinctively, it's a survival reflex. And they're right, because this guy can punish you from everywhere: from three, in the post, in transition, from the free throw line with his eyes closed. He's a damn 6'8" Swiss Army knife and he cuts in every direction. The opposing locker room before the game, you know what they talk about? Not the game plan. Not the offensive scheme. No. They talk about HIM. "How do we stop him?" "Who takes the matchup?" "Does he look tired?" Spoiler: he's never tired. And even when he looks tired, it's a trap. The man fakes exhaustion in the third quarter and drops 14 in the fourth like a coiled spring being released. Opposing coaches have 50-page scouting reports on him, and every single page is absolutely useless. Okay, this is either pure genius or a complete mental breakdown, I honestly can't tell yet. The wild card, the stroke of brilliance or insanity depending on how many beers you've had, is that the coach decided to pull a move never before seen in league history: he signed Zohran Mamdani, his brother-in-law and a rapper by trade, on a ten-day contract. The guy showed up to the bench wearing a bucket hat, carrying their hot mic and a cooler, surrounded by 7-foot giants who weigh three times as much. Apparently the coach's theory is that if Zohran Mamdani can place a basketball with the same precision he uses for the fiery bars to "bullseye" the opposing center's head, we've got the play of the century. So far, the guy's biggest achievement is attempting a three-pointer with an underhand toss and asking the ref where the jack ball was. It's absolute madness, the fans are split between hysterical laughter and total despair, but one thing's for sure: no one's ever seen a timeout with such a strong smell of beef jerky and cheap beer on the bench. The budget? What budget? We're so far below the salary floor you could limbo under it blindfolded. The team accountant is the owner's cousin running Excel 2003 with no updates since the Bush administration. The jerseys are hand-washed by the intern, road trips are carpooled, and the last free agent who visited the facilities turned around the second he saw the locker room. But you know what? Character is forged in the struggle. And this team's got character coming out of its damn ears.

Matchday 1vs Detroit Engine-Roar

86-131 (L)

Tip goes to the imam, who spends most of the week nowhere near a gym. Explain that one to me.

Swing, swing, and Zohran Mamdani finds Barack Obama on the wing before the help can even turn its head. Dribble alive, patient, patient, and then Barack Obama slips it to Martin Luther King Jr. right in the pocket. Surgical. Catching it right at the cup with nobody within eight feet, Martin Luther King Jr. goes up too strong and the ball rides high off the backboard.

Turnover, layup, Detroit Engine-Roar straight through us in transition. Careless basketball.

Clean feed from Zohran Mamdani, nothing forced, just the offense breathing. That is the third live-ball giveaway of the half, and each one has been the same read: Barack Obama deciding late and throwing early.

Ohhh no. Corner three, Detroit Engine-Roar in rhythm now, and our side of the building goes silent.

Break! Zohran Mamdani has left a puddle of sweat at every step through the tunnel. Fun fact: Zohran Mamdani is unbeatable at arm wrestling in the locker room. Even the center is scared. And now, our halftime TV game show Foul Line Confessions! To win a hood ornament from a truck that was never built, text HOOPS to 555-1098 and answer this question: 'Why does every gym in the country smell exactly the same?' The players emerge from the tunnel. Stern faces, clenched fists.

That hesitation move is exactly why they keep sending a second body at Barack Obama the moment he crosses half court. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! The community organizer just drew a shooting foul with a veteran pump fake. Two free throws for somebody who clocks in at a real job tomorrow morning. Two for two from the community organizer, calm as a Tuesday afternoon. Whatever that job involves all day, it clearly builds very steady hands.

Bucket for Detroit Engine-Roar. Wide open look, and nobody even ran at the shooter.

Ball moves. Zohran Mamdani to Malcolm X, on time and on target. One little shoulder dip from Malcolm X and the guy guarding him turned into a traffic cone in real time. Textbook footwork, textbook release from Malcolm X, cruel result as it spins out and both teams go up for a contested board.

BRICK! Martin Luther King Jr. throws up a prayer and the iron sends it straight back out to half court! The shot is short, and Barack Obama is the only man moving. He rips it out of the crowd and the possession lives. Rebounding is effort, and effort is apparently what the community organizer does for a living. Second chance points, all guts.

A single dribble is all Hasan Piker needed to get downhill, and the back side of that defense is in complete disarray. Stonewalled at the top of the square! The big man meets Hasan Piker up there and returns it with interest.

Detroit Engine-Roar again, and again nobody is home. Three straight trips down the floor with zero resistance.

Watch the spacing there, Hasan Piker hits Malcolm X right in the shooting pocket and the possession stays alive. Right through the window. Malcolm X to Hasan Piker on the roll, and the help was a half step late. Shot clock at one, and Hasan Piker just has to throw something at the rim. Nothing doing.

SKIP PASS! Zohran Mamdani fires it cross court to Martin Luther King Jr. and the defense is dead in the water! Martin Luther King Jr. comes flying off that screen and he is WIDE open! Pull-up from the elbow by Martin Luther King Jr., halfway down, spinning inside the iron, and it pops right back out.

Dagger from Detroit Engine-Roar. You could hear the air leave this arena on that one.

That is the pass that beats a zone, and Barack Obama threw it before the help even committed. The civil rights activist just made the extra pass with a clean look of his own! You do not run into that kind of selflessness at the office! AIRBALL! Hasan Piker missed the rim, the backboard and everything in between!

Zohran Mamdani isolates in a corner, back against the wall. Hasan Piker tries to talk. He raises a hand to say no. And here is the answer to our game show Foul Line Confessions! Wendell Crabtree of Lost Mitten, Colorado, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'Why does every gym in the country smell exactly the same?' The answer was of course floor wax, popcorn, and forty years of accumulated nervousness. Wendell therefore wins a hood ornament from a truck that was never built! Fun fact: my driver has been waiting in the parking lot for an hour. He's sent me 14 messages. That's a wrap! Coming up: 'American Idol: Accountant Edition.' Singing, dancing, and spreadsheets.

Matchday 2vs Miami Heart-Attack

86-130 (L)

More second chance points for Miami Heart-Attack, and our bench is up screaming for a timeout. Rightly so.

The community organizer turns clean out of two bodies in the paint. That is nowhere in the job description and yet here we are. Three free throws for the community organizer! That is the single most expensive mistake in basketball, and a person with a real day job just engineered it.

Court vision like that on the community organizer is absurd. Whatever the day job pays him, the assist numbers say he is badly underpriced. So close. Zohran Mamdani can only stare at the iron.

Count it and the foul. Brutal. Miami Heart-Attack with a three point play and a gut punch in the same possession.

From behind! Zohran Mamdani tracks him down and takes the ball right off the backboard. The rapper just threw an outlet that traveled farther than most people commute. Absurd. Martin Luther King Jr. attacks the baseline, the big man steps up to meet him, and it does not matter one bit. FILTHY.

Martin Luther King Jr. Freezes in his follow-through, wrist still hanging, and holds it while the Miami Heart-Attack coach burns a timeout out of pure desperation. He holds it through the whistle. He holds it into the huddle. The cameras eat every single second of it.

Heading in. Barack Obama's eyes are bloodshot from sheer effort. Little scoop: Barack Obama logs every game in a notebook. With stars and smiley faces. At that age. And now, our halftime TV game show Hollywood Squares Off! To win a punch card for a sandwich shop that stopped honoring punch cards, text HOOPS to 555-0431 and answer this question: 'Why do basketballs bounce higher when nobody is watching?' Jump ball to restart. Let the second half begin!

Nobody boxed out. Tip in, Miami Heart-Attack, and two of ours were standing right there watching it happen.

Watch the change of pace from Hasan Piker, half speed into full speed in one step, and that is a blow-by every time. Down, up, and gone for Hasan Piker. The rim is just toying with him now.

The extra pass! Barack Obama had the look, gave it up anyway, and Malcolm X buries it. BANG! Two hands on the ball, then a fresh bounce. Somewhere a youth coach is watching the imam and quietly turning off the TV.

Second pass beats the rotation, Hasan Piker to Martin Luther King Jr., and the closeout gets there about half a second too late. The block is clean, the ball is gone, and Martin Luther King Jr. is left staring at his empty hands like a man who lost his keys.

Cold blooded from Miami Heart-Attack, way out beyond the arc, and our defense is scrambling in rotation.

Screened, toasted, done. Barack Obama is loose and the defense is scrambling to find him. BANG! Barack Obama steps back, creates the daylight, and buries it right in the defender's eye.

Barack Obama plants himself in front of the Miami Heart-Attack bench, hands on hips, and simply stands there until somebody says something. Somebody says something. Officials arrive at a jog. A teammate hauls him backward by the waist while the arena begs for more.

Third reach charged to Martin Luther King Jr.. At some point the officials stop giving you the benefit of the doubt, and that point was two whistles ago. Foul trouble is a chess match and Martin Luther King Jr. just lost a piece. Three before the break changes how this team defends the pick and roll.

And there it is, a walk-in layup for Miami Heart-Attack with not one hand raised in the paint. Somebody has to protect that rim.

Four minutes without a point for Zohran Mamdani and his group. The offense has completely seized up. Horn goes, ball still in the hands of Zohran Mamdani. Shot clock violation, and that possession never existed.

They have to shoot over the top of this thing, and the top of it is a long way up. Filthy work from Malcolm X.

Martin Luther King Jr. Takes off his shoes and carries them like a ghost. Zohran Mamdani follows the same path. And here is the answer to our game show Hollywood Squares Off! Harlan Prewitt of Muddy Boot, Mississippi, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'Why do basketballs bounce higher when nobody is watching?' The answer was of course that they are showing off for the ceiling. Harlan therefore wins a punch card for a sandwich shop that stopped honoring punch cards! During halftime, I tried to interview the mascot. It ignored me. I'll recover eventually. That's it for tonight. Coming up: 'Nailed It: Cakes Ruined by My Mother-in-Law.'

Matchday 3vs Orlando Magic-Beans

78-122 (L)

Cold blooded from Orlando Magic-Beans, way out beyond the arc, and our defense is scrambling in rotation.

Full stop, full sprint, and the youtuber is in the paint! Nobody back at the workplace is going to believe this one. Twenty-four seconds of standing around, and Hasan Piker has to eat the last two of them. Possession wasted long before the shot went up.

One hard step and Zohran Mamdani owns that whole side of the floor, which means the low man has to make a decision he does not want. Zohran Mamdani rises, the big man rises higher, and the shot is stuffed into the second row. Return to sender.

Count it and the foul. Brutal. Orlando Magic-Beans with a three point play and a gut punch in the same possession.

A cut with that timing from the rapper? He is on the clock somewhere else all week and he still found time to learn the two-man game. The rapper baits the contact, gets the whistle, and struts to the line like a ten-year pro. His boss is watching this and quietly rethinking next week's schedule. Boring is beautiful, and Zohran Mamdani is automatic from the stripe. That is how you close a game out.

Halftime! Barack Obama walks barefoot on the cold tunnel tiles. Did you know Barack Obama started basketball because he was terrible at soccer? Sometimes failure leads to greatness. And now, our halftime TV game show Wipeout the Rec League Edition! To win a weather vane pointing a direction wind has never once gone, text HOOPS to 555-0914 and answer this question: 'How many bleacher splinters are removed nationwide every Tuesday?' We're back! The DJ cranks the volume, the players charge onto the court.

Dagger from Orlando Magic-Beans. You could hear the air leave this arena on that one.

The community organizer is out here running a pro offense with hand signals, not one hint of panic, and he clocks in somewhere else in the morning. The rapper just handed that one straight to the other team. Hey, nobody is perfect at two jobs at once.

Orlando Magic-Beans again, and again nobody is home. Three straight trips down the floor with zero resistance.

Ice in his veins for a guy who answers to community organizer the rest of the week. Professional shot, amateur resume. The civil rights activist misses absolutely everything, and honestly, the nerve to even attempt that shot deserves something. Not points. But something.

Two defenders collide on the handoff and Hasan Piker is gone, so Barack Obama earned that one even if the box score disagrees. The gather was clean, the decision after it was not. Hasan Piker had a live pivot foot and threw it away for a bounce he did not need.

OHHHH the hesi! Hasan Piker froze him solid and he is already gone! REJECTED! Hasan Piker takes it in and gets it sent straight back into his own chest.

More second chance points for Orlando Magic-Beans, and our bench is up screaming for a timeout. Rightly so.

The rapper just moved an entire defense with one flick of the wrist. Somebody check that resume again. Textbook two-man game: Martin Luther King Jr. keeps the dribble alive, forces the big man to commit, and Hasan Piker rolls into an open runway. Getting to his spot and elevating, Hasan Piker puts it on the back iron, up over the front, and out. Half a rotation from two points.

The community organizer reads the screen perfectly, comes off shoulder to shoulder, and buys himself an open look. Veteran movement, rookie resume. The community organizer just had his shot delivered into the courtside seats. Tough scene, but at least the day job is safe.

First option: Malcolm X. Everything else on that clipboard is decoration. Barack Obama delivers on the second option, Hasan Piker buries it, and the coach is already walking back to the bench like he knew. He did know.

Blowing smoke off two fingers like a gunslinger, Hasan Piker holsters them in his waistband. Malcolm X plays dead on the baseline. The mascot joins the bit uninvited. A referee has to physically separate a celebration from an inbound play.

Zohran Mamdani mutters while walking out. Hasan Piker watches from the corner of his eye, worried. And here is the answer to our game show Wipeout the Rec League Edition! Lavonne Stackhouse of Grease Rag Creek, Delaware, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'How many bleacher splinters are removed nationwide every Tuesday?' The answer was of course six hundred and twelve, and most of them in the Midwest. Lavonne therefore wins a weather vane pointing a direction wind has never once gone! I learned that Zohran Mamdani's father was a community organizer. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. We're signing off. And now: 'Musical Chairs: Subway Seat Edition.' Winner takes all.

Matchday 4vs Philadelphia Injury-Report

86-131 (L)

OHHHH he SNATCHED that tip! Malcolm X rips it out of the air and we are off.

You do not put the other team in the bonus this early. Martin Luther King Jr. has to be smarter than contact that never had a chance at the ball.

STOP AND GO! Barack Obama hit the brakes, hit the gas, and the lane opened up like a garage door. Straight back to the office for the community organizer, and the group chat has already seen it twice.

Nobody boxed out. Tip in, Philadelphia Injury-Report, and two of ours were standing right there watching it happen.

Eight seconds off the shot clock and Barack Obama has not wasted one of them, the ball reaching Martin Luther King Jr. precisely where the play wanted it. Watch the spacing, Martin Luther King Jr. drags two bodies toward the ball and Hasan Piker is standing alone behind the line. Geometry, not luck. Give and go! Hasan Piker gives it up, cuts, and gets it right back with a clear lane to the cup! Runner in the lane by Hasan Piker, high off the fingertips, straight down through the net. Splash!

Nothing but a nod. Hasan Piker jogs back on defense with his eyes half closed, like the shot was a formality he had penciled in. The entire arena is levitating and he could not look less involved. The Philadelphia Injury-Report bench looks personally insulted.

Halftime! Barack Obama walks barefoot on the cold tunnel tiles. Little secret: Barack Obama watches cat videos between quarters. Says it's relaxing. And now, our halftime TV game show The Weakest Rebound! To win a first place pepper jelly ribbon from the 1996 state fair, text HOOPS to 555-1327 and answer this question: 'What is the official color of the squeak sneaker makes on a wet floor?' The locker room empties, the court fills up. Act 2.

Count it and the foul. Brutal. Philadelphia Injury-Report with a three point play and a gut punch in the same possession.

Verticality, timing, discipline: Malcolm X never bites on the pump fake and still finds a way to erase the shot.

Cold blooded from Philadelphia Injury-Report, way out beyond the arc, and our defense is scrambling in rotation.

The imam just got left in the dust, and in fairness, that is a professional athlete he was asked to guard. OHHHH NO. Martin Luther King Jr. pinned it against the glass a half second late and that is goaltending all day.

Philadelphia Injury-Report again, and again nobody is home. Three straight trips down the floor with zero resistance.

The community organizer gets whistled for the swipe. Forty honest hours a week and here he is, picking pockets in front of twenty thousand witnesses. The community organizer is a single whistle from disqualification and he is STILL sliding his feet into the paint. Courage or a very bad week at work.

Set called, Malcolm X waved out to the corner, and Barack Obama watches the spacing open up like a front door. This is the work that never shows up on a stat sheet, Malcolm X gets the credit and the guy setting the screen gets the bruise. Martin Luther King Jr. threads a BEAUTY to Malcolm X under the rim and... he lays it off the bottom of the iron! Ohhhh, no.

More second chance points for Philadelphia Injury-Report, and our bench is up screaming for a timeout. Rightly so.

The community organizer just froze a grown professional with a hesitation dribble. This man punches a clock and he is out here doing THAT. The community organizer just spun through two defenders and reversed that in. Nothing about this is a normal Tuesday!

Golf swing follow-through, perfect form, Barack Obama tracks the imaginary ball into the upper deck with a hand shading his eyes. Somebody in the front row yells about a hole in one. The referee has now warned this team twice and been ignored twice.

The civil rights activist commits the ugliest foul of the night entirely on purpose, and honestly that is the smartest thing anyone has done all quarter.

Hasan Piker kicks his towel across the floor. Zohran Mamdani has already left for the locker room, alone. And here is the answer to our game show The Weakest Rebound! Earlene Tidwell of Gizzard Ridge, Tennessee, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'What is the official color of the squeak sneaker makes on a wet floor?' The answer was of course a light mustard yellow, per the county Department of Squeaks. Earlene therefore wins a first place pepper jelly ribbon from the 1996 state fair! On my end, I ate peanuts through the entire third quarter. Salt is my drug of choice. Until next time! Up next: 'Kitchen Nightmares: Corporate Cafeteria.' This is gonna be good.

Matchday 5vs Phoenix No-Defense

89-133 (L)

Won it clean! Martin Luther King Jr. got up and over him with room to spare.

Ohhh no. Corner three, Phoenix No-Defense in rhythm now, and our side of the building goes silent.

The ball travels faster than five defenders can, and Hasan Piker has known that all night long. Off the pin-down comes the civil rights activist with nobody inside a zip code. Somebody out there knows how to use a screen, and it is not who you would guess. A cruel spin-out for the civil rights activist, and whatever that day job is, tonight it came with a brand new way to break your heart.

Bucket for Phoenix No-Defense. Wide open look, and nobody even ran at the shooter.

A full spin move through traffic from the community organizer! Whatever they teach in that trade, footwork is apparently part of it. The community organizer baits the contact, gets the whistle, and struts to the line like a ten-year pro. His boss is watching this and quietly rethinking next week's schedule. First one drops clean through, the second one never even touches iron. Cold blooded from Barack Obama.

Break. Hasan Piker's socks are soaking wet — quick change on the spot. Did you know Hasan Piker once tried to start an ASMR podcast of sneaker squeaks on the hardwood? One episode. Deleted. And now, our halftime TV game show Concentration But Nobody Is Paying Attention! To win a set of drink coasters showing all fifty state flowers, badly drawn, text HOOPS to 555-0629 and answer this question: 'What time is it in a gymnasium when the clock is broken?' And we're off! The energy in the arena just went up a notch.

Day job, then this: the community organizer reads a rolling big like a coach with twenty years on the bench. The youtuber had that thing halfway down and the rim spat it back out. Nobody ever warns you that the iron has a personality.

Cold blooded from Phoenix No-Defense, way out beyond the arc, and our defense is scrambling in rotation.

Feet were down. Martin Luther King Jr. drove through a brick wall, and the officials agree with the brick wall.

Barack Obama kicks it over to Malcolm X, no dribble, no drama, and this offense settles into a rhythm. The big rolls, the defense collapses, and Malcolm X punishes it with a read most guys never even see. Zohran Mamdani rises up from fifteen feet and OHHHH, that rattled in and OUT!

You want basketball IQ? Ask the community organizer, who just moved the rock on time without one wasted dribble. Martin Luther King Jr. hands it off to Barack Obama, slices through the seam, and the return pass is sitting there waiting at the rim. Martin Luther King Jr. beat the clock by a tenth of a second and missed by about four feet. Technically legal, competitively pointless.

Nobody boxed out. Tip in, Phoenix No-Defense, and two of ours were standing right there watching it happen.

Watch Malcolm X plant his feet, absorb the hit, and spring Hasan Piker out of that corner in a blink. Baseline drive by Hasan Piker, he absorbs the hammer from the help defender, and the official is already pointing to the line. Cash. Cash again. Hasan Piker pockets the two and jogs back on defense like nothing happened.

The whole second unit is on the floor before the ball is out of the net. Hasan Piker disappears underneath them. Somewhere in the pile shoe comes off. Martin Luther King Jr. Is on the outside of it screaming straight up at the ceiling.

Turnover, layup, Phoenix No-Defense straight through us in transition. Careless basketball.

Over the top of everybody. Zohran Mamdani to Malcolm X in the corner, wide open, catch and rise. The imam just ran that two-man game like he has a decade of film on it. Somebody get this man a contract. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! That was IN for Hasan Piker!

You do not need a scholarship to figure that one out. The rapper just stopped the clock the way people have been stopping clocks in gyms for sixty years.

Barack Obama isolates in a corner, back against the wall. Martin Luther King Jr. Tries to talk. He raises a hand to say no. And here is the answer to our game show Concentration But Nobody Is Paying Attention! Junior Applewhite of Gravy Bend, South Carolina, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'What time is it in a gymnasium when the clock is broken?' The answer was of course always 4:17, a time that has never done anybody any good. Junior therefore wins a set of drink coasters showing all fifty state flowers, badly drawn! Tonight I had a revelation: Martin Luther King Jr. Runs exactly like my neighbor when he misses the bus. See you tomorrow. In the meantime, it's 'Who Wants to Marry My Goldfish.' Good luck with that.

Matchday 6vs Los Angeles Nursing-Home

74-119 (L)

The referee tosses it high and Malcolm X rises late, which is exactly how you win one of these. Timing over height, every single time.

Contested! Martin Luther King Jr. makes him change it in midair.

Nobody is getting a hand near that. Barack Obama has all the room in the world. Deep. Deeper. GONE. Barack Obama drops it in from a spot the scouting report never even listed.

Barack Obama finds the courtside camera lens, leans all the way in and says absolutely nothing. Just breathes on it. Eight seconds of national television filled by one enormous face. Zohran Mamdani photobombs with crossed eyes, and the clip runs on every highlight show by midnight.

Dagger from Los Angeles Nursing-Home. You could hear the air leave this arena on that one.

No hero ball here: Zohran Mamdani takes what the defense gives and moves it along. Zohran Mamdani eats the contact so Hasan Piker can run free along the baseline, and the catch-and-shoot look is right there. That is the shot Hasan Piker wants every trip down the floor, it drops nine nights out of ten, and tonight is the tenth.

Halftime. Zohran Mamdani glances at his phone for two seconds and puts it back. Did you know Zohran Mamdani plays better when it's raining outside? Even indoors. Go figure. And now, our halftime TV game show Card Sharks and Minnows! To win a case of off-brand soda called Mister Fizz, text HOOPS to 555-0209 and answer this question: 'How deep is the deep end of a kiddie pool?' Second half! The hardwood is about to shake again.

Hasan Piker launches it weak side, one pass, and the whole shell has to sprint. Good luck with that. Nobody dribbled, nobody isolated, Barack Obama and Hasan Piker just played basketball and the defense got shredded. Barack Obama blows the wide open layup!

Turnover, layup, Los Angeles Nursing-Home straight through us in transition. Careless basketball.

The youtuber just flattened a man who had both feet planted. Charge, turnover, and a very quiet walk back on defense.

That is the pass nobody puts on a highlight reel, and Zohran Mamdani makes it every single trip down the floor. BAAAANG! Malcolm X with the alley-oop finish, and the defender never even left the floor.

Dunk so loud the backboard is still ringing when Malcolm X lands. He stares down the front row like they owe him money. A man in a five-thousand-dollar seat drops his drink. Barack Obama drags Malcolm X away by the jersey before it becomes an incident.

Bucket for Los Angeles Nursing-Home. Wide open look, and nobody even ran at the shooter.

The youtuber just made the extra pass with a clean look of his own! You do not run into that kind of selflessness at the office! Nobody touched him, nobody trapped him, and Barack Obama still coughed it up. Easiest whistle these officials will blow all night.

Ohhh no. Corner three, Los Angeles Nursing-Home in rhythm now, and our side of the building goes silent.

Watch the sell from Barack Obama here, he leans in, he gets the defender leaning with him, and then he backs away into all that space. Third look from distance for Barack Obama tonight and the arc keeps flattening out, tired legs writing checks the jumper cannot cash.

Los Angeles Nursing-Home again, and again nobody is home. Three straight trips down the floor with zero resistance.

That is a clean blow-by on Zohran Mamdani, and the help defense was nowhere in the same area code. Personal foul on the youtuber. Somewhere a shift is going uncovered and not one soul in this arena cares.

Martin Luther King Jr. Unclasps his chain and squeezes it in his fist. Barack Obama runs a hand down his face. And here is the answer to our game Card Sharks and Minnows! Norma Jean Slaughterbeck of Grease Rack, Indiana, got it right. The question, let me remind you, was 'How deep is the deep end of a kiddie pool?' The answer was of course approximately one confident toddler. Norma Jean takes home a case of off-brand soda called Mister Fizz! On my end, the AC in the booth broke down. I sweated more than Barack Obama. Thanks for being here. Now put down the remote, it's time for 'Wheel of Misfortune.'

Matchday 7vs Toronto Border-Patrol

81-125 (L)

Martin Luther King Jr. times the leap perfectly, taps it back to the wing, and the first possession of the night belongs to us.

Body to body all the way to the rim and the arm goes up. That is on Martin Luther King Jr., and this crew is not letting anything go tonight. Martin Luther King Jr. slides in late on the drive, the official punches the fourth, and the coach is already waving for a sub.

Ball squirts loose off the knee of the youtuber. Back to the day job, my friend. Back to the day job.

More second chance points for Toronto Border-Patrol, and our bench is up screaming for a timeout. Rightly so.

Reverse it, make them slide all over again, that is how Hasan Piker breaks a shell down. The community organizer runs a dribble handoff with the timing of a fifteen-year vet. Not bad for somebody who does this on weekends. Oldest play in the book and it still works: Hasan Piker passes, the defender peeks at the ball, and that one beat is the whole possession. This building is SHAKING. Hasan Piker just stepped into a logo three like it was a warmup rep.

End of the first act. Malcolm X is puffing like a steam engine heading back. I've been told Malcolm X always puts his left shoe on first. The one day he switched, gave up 40 points. And now, our halftime TV game show Guy Reads a Manual! To win a family-size tub of margarine autographed by a stranger, text HOOPS to 555-0345 and answer this question: 'How many people can hear a vending machine at three in the morning?' We're off again! The crowd chants the team's name.

Unselfish basketball. Zohran Mamdani passes up a good shot and hands Martin Luther King Jr. a GREAT one. The civil rights activist tried the teardrop and never got it to the rim. Turns out soft touch does not come standard with that day job. Second-chance points are how you steal games on the road, and Martin Luther King Jr. has now cleaned up four misses tonight. Miss, tip, bucket. Martin Luther King Jr. makes his living in the wreckage.

Martin Luther King Jr. Plants himself in front of the Toronto Border-Patrol bench, hands on hips, and simply stands there until somebody says something. Somebody says something. Officials arrive at a jog. A teammate hauls him backward by the waist while the arena begs for more.

Cold blooded from Toronto Border-Patrol, way out beyond the arc, and our defense is scrambling in rotation.

Clean feed from Barack Obama, nothing forced, just the offense breathing. Screen, roll, DELIVERY from Malcolm X! Nothing but runway to the rim! Textbook footwork, textbook release from Martin Luther King Jr., cruel result as it spins out and both teams go up for a contested board.

Bucket for Toronto Border-Patrol. Wide open look, and nobody even ran at the shooter.

Court vision like that on the rapper is absurd. Whatever the day job pays him, the assist numbers say he is badly underpriced. That is a shot selection problem, plain and simple. Malcolm X drove into three bodies and the help defender was waiting the whole way.

And there it is, a walk-in layup for Toronto Border-Patrol with not one hand raised in the paint. Somebody has to protect that rim.

This is the counter: Barack Obama punished a defense that kept going under, and now they have to rip up the game plan. The imam launched one from the logo as the horn sounded. In fairness, nobody in that huddle gave him a better option.

No hero ball here: Barack Obama takes what the defense gives and moves it along. Martin Luther King Jr. sets it and slides out instead of rolling, Hasan Piker finds him late, and the defense pays for cheating under the screen. Two on the shot clock and the ball ends up with the civil rights activist, which is how you get a twenty-eight footer off the wrong foot.

Ohhh no. Corner three, Toronto Border-Patrol in rhythm now, and our side of the building goes silent.

Hands up, one stomp, a short speech, and the whistle answers. Technical foul on Zohran Mamdani, and the bench is stunned. Two technicals and the rapper is out. Whatever happened at work today, he clearly brought every bit of it to the arena.

Barack Obama sits on the bench, staring into nothing. Hasan Piker has his head in his hands. And here is the answer to our game Guy Reads a Manual! Doris Ann Hoke of Butter Churn, New Hampshire, got it right. The question, let me remind you, was 'How many people can hear a vending machine at three in the morning?' The answer was of course everybody in the building, including the ones pretending to sleep. Doris Ann takes home a family-size tub of margarine autographed by a stranger! Final confession: I still don't know how to pronounce Barack Obama's name. Forgive me. Good night! Up next: 'America's Got Talent: Mouth Noises Edition.' The judges are baffled.

Matchday 8vs Minnesota Ice-Wall

87-132 (L)

Both guys crouch, both guys go, and it is Malcolm X who wins the little argument at center court.

Punish the help, that is the rule, and Barack Obama just did it by hitting Zohran Mamdani on the back side with acres of room. The defender planted his feet, and Zohran Mamdani said thank you very much and drove straight through his front pocket. Zohran Mamdani gathers on the baseline, absorbs contact from two bodies, and slams it home. That rim is still shaking.

Blowing smoke off two fingers like a gunslinger, Zohran Mamdani holsters them in his waistband. Barack Obama plays dead on the baseline. The mascot joins the bit uninvited. A referee has to physically separate a celebration from an inbound play.

Turnover, layup, Minnesota Ice-Wall straight through us in transition. Careless basketball.

The youtuber makes the simple read look automatic. Clock out of work, clock in for clean basketball decisions. Two guys on the exact same page, Zohran Mamdani and Barack Obama, and the defense is left holding a bag of nothing. Buzzer on the shot clock, Zohran Mamdani heaves it off one leg, and the ball comes up short of everything.

The youtuber puts a shoulder into the ball handler and pays for it. He spends all day being polite to strangers and now he is hacking people for a living. Hasan Piker throws his head back, because he knows exactly what it means. His minutes are somebody else's decision now.

Halftime whistle. Zohran Mamdani high-fives his teammates on the way out. Little secret: Zohran Mamdani has a secret TikTok account with 12 followers. Posts cooking tutorials. And now, our halftime TV game show The Pyramid of Slightly Less Money! To win a novelty mug that says WORLDS SECOND BEST GRANDMA, text HOOPS to 555-0938 and answer this question: 'Which is heavier, a pound of basketballs or a pound of excuses?' Play resumes! The coach set a few things straight in the locker room.

Nobody boxed out. Tip in, Minnesota Ice-Wall, and two of ours were standing right there watching it happen.

Pass, skip, reversal, pass again. Hasan Piker shifts with every single one of them and the possession ends in a contested fadeaway.

Count it and the foul. Brutal. Minnesota Ice-Wall with a three point play and a gut punch in the same possession.

Reverse it, make them slide all over again, that is how Zohran Mamdani breaks a shell down. A youtuber breaking down a professional defender in front of a sold out house! Remember that day job, folks! Wide open at the top of the key and Hasan Piker cannot make it count, the defense secures the board and takes off in transition.

And there it is, a walk-in layup for Minnesota Ice-Wall with not one hand raised in the paint. Somebody has to protect that rim.

Somebody explain how the community organizer reads a defense faster than half this league. Whatever he does all day, it clearly involves thinking three steps ahead. SPIN and GO! Martin Luther King Jr. pirouettes right through the traffic and comes out the other side clean! The civil rights activist gets it handed over on a silver platter at point blank range and drops it. Somewhere in this building a coach is questioning every decision that led here.

The community organizer just froze a grown professional with a hesitation dribble. This man punches a clock and he is out here doing THAT. The community organizer had that thing halfway down and the rim spat it back out. Nobody ever warns you that the iron has a personality.

Dagger from Minnesota Ice-Wall. You could hear the air leave this arena on that one.

Cross court, on a rope, from the rapper. In this league that pass earns a contract, and he does it on his night off. Full stop, full sprint, and the imam is in the paint! Nobody back at the workplace is going to believe this one. Perfect drop-off from Barack Obama, and Malcolm X answers with... whatever that was. Off the glass, off the rim, and gone.

Timeout. Tablet out. And every line the coach draws starts with Hasan Piker. OHHHH that is BEAUTIFUL basketball! Hasan Piker finishes the set and the whole bench is up.

Nobody on the bench is sitting. Not the coaches, not the trainers, not the guy in the suit who never plays. Hasan Piker points at all of them at once with both hands. Towels come down like weather and the officials wait it out with the patience of the doomed.

Barack Obama stares at his hands like he doesn't recognize them. Hasan Piker exhales. Again. And again. And here is the answer to our game show The Pyramid of Slightly Less Money! Dwight Hufnagel of Bogwater, Maine, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'Which is heavier, a pound of basketballs or a pound of excuses?' The answer was of course the excuses, because they come with packaging. Dwight therefore wins a novelty mug that says WORLDS SECOND BEST GRANDMA! Tonight I yelled so loud the guy in the next booth asked me to keep it down. Mid-game. That's a wrap! Coming up: 'What Would You Do: People Who Say Hello in the Elevator.' Exposing the truth.

Matchday 9vs Houston Blast-Off

89-134 (L)

Tip is UP and Malcolm X gets there first! We are underway and it is our ball.

Here is the part that never makes the highlight package: Barack Obama controlling tempo, burning clock, hunting the mismatch the second one shows up. Whirl, and GONE! Martin Luther King Jr. leaves the defender grabbing at a jersey that stopped being there half a second ago. Gift wrapped by Hasan Piker, and Martin Luther King Jr. cannot finish the two footer. That one is going to sting.

Nobody boxed out. Tip in, Houston Blast-Off, and two of ours were standing right there watching it happen.

Full stop, full sprint, and the community organizer is in the paint! Nobody back at the workplace is going to believe this one. You can live with most mistakes, but fouling Barack Obama behind the arc gets you a seat next to the coach.

Houston Blast-Off again, and again nobody is home. Three straight trips down the floor with zero resistance.

Back to the locker room. Malcolm X punches his locker. The staff told me Malcolm X sings in the shower. Badly. Very badly. And now, our halftime TV game show The Gong Show Kazoo Edition! To win a jug of homemade hot sauce labeled only with a warning, text HOOPS to 555-0129 and answer this question: 'What is the correct way to pronounce the name on a jersey that nobody can read?' We're back! The players look fired up.

The imam just blocked a jump shot into the stands and went back on defense like it was a normal Tuesday. BAAAANG! Hasan Piker throws the outlet ahead and Malcolm X finishes through contact at the rim!

Straight to the logo at center court, Malcolm X plants both feet and flexes until the veins show. The bench is a pile of bodies and airborne headbands. An assistant coach has to be physically restrained by a trainer who is also celebrating.

Bucket for Houston Blast-Off. Wide open look, and nobody even ran at the shooter.

OHHHH the separation! Barack Obama just manufactured three feet of daylight out of absolutely nothing. Straight back to the office for the community organizer, and the group chat has already seen it twice.

And there it is, a walk-in layup for Houston Blast-Off with not one hand raised in the paint. Somebody has to protect that rim.

Push the pace! Barack Obama grabs it and hits Malcolm X in stride before the defense can even match up. Hard drive, hard stop, and Malcolm X retreats into an ocean of open hardwood. Nobody drew up that arc. The imam floated one halfway to the rafters, and the rim never even got a say.

Count it and the foul. Brutal. Houston Blast-Off with a three point play and a gut punch in the same possession.

A chair knocked flat, an assistant coach holding somebody back by the jersey, that whole row completely unhinged. That is the Barack Obama effect. The youtuber just jumped a passing lane like a ten-year pro and took it the distance. What a league this is!

Hesitate, GO. Hasan Piker is by that hip before the man even blinks. BAAAANG! Hasan Piker from the logo, and the entire bench is on its feet losing its mind!

Reach-in on the youtuber. He tried to take the ball the way he takes everything else on the job, politely and with both hands. Three fouls on the youtuber before halftime. He clocks in, he throws two elbows, he clocks right back out.

The longer they stay at that monitor, the louder this place gets, and Martin Luther King Jr. is refusing to look at the big screen. Freeze it right there: leather glued to the fingers of Martin Luther King Jr., horn already screaming. No basket.

Hasan Piker and Barack Obama share a single look. Just one. It contains all the disappointment in the world. And here is the answer to our game The Gong Show Kazoo Edition! Homer Blevins of Lost Wallet, Massachusetts, got it right. The question, let me remind you, was 'What is the correct way to pronounce the name on a jersey that nobody can read?' The answer was of course however the grandmother in row four says it. Homer takes home a jug of homemade hot sauce labeled only with a warning! I spent the evening explaining basketball rules to my new intern. He still thinks you can walk with the ball. And now, a brand new episode of 'Desperately Seeking My Cat.' Good night, everyone.

Matchday 10vs Denver Horse-Track

82-127 (L)

Count it and the foul. Brutal. Denver Horse-Track with a three point play and a gut punch in the same possession.

Across half court, a quick survey, a point to the weak side, and Barack Obama drops it off to Zohran Mamdani on time and on target. The rapper just ran a give and go to perfection on national television! Somebody go tell his boss what he does after hours! Rim out for Zohran Mamdani, the crowd came up and sat right back down, and you can hear the groan from every corner of the arena.

Denver Horse-Track again, and again nobody is home. Three straight trips down the floor with zero resistance.

Hasan Piker sets the pick and DIVES to the cup. Barack Obama lays it right on his hands in traffic! You can hear that rim ringing from up here, Hasan Piker has forced three in a row now and the whole offense has stopped moving.

They do not teach that in the community organizer handbook, and yet here we are. Beautiful little exchange. Oh, that is rough. Hasan Piker killed his own dribble and then started a brand new one.

Finally a breather. Malcolm X has calf cramps, the physio rushes over. Did you know? Malcolm X once signed an autograph for a referee. During the game. Mid free-throw. And now, our halftime TV game show Whistle While You Guess! To win a five year supply of individually wrapped mints from a bank lobby, text HOOPS to 555-1291 and answer this question: 'How many times does a referee blink during a single overtime period?' Back on the hardwood. The tension has gone up a notch.

A probe, a plant of the outside foot, and Hasan Piker pushes off while his man is still fighting to recover his balance. A cruel spin-out for the youtuber, and whatever that day job is, tonight it came with a brand new way to break your heart.

More second chance points for Denver Horse-Track, and our bench is up screaming for a timeout. Rightly so.

The community organizer reads the screen perfectly, comes off shoulder to shoulder, and buys himself an open look. Veteran movement, rookie resume. Missed layup for the community organizer and the whole arena groans as one. Great hands in the day job, apparently they do not travel.

Bucket for Denver Horse-Track. Wide open look, and nobody even ran at the shooter.

Shot is up, Martin Luther King Jr. loses the wrestling match on the block, and the ball comes down in enemy hands.

No block, no foul, just Martin Luther King Jr. being ENORMOUS in the lane, and that shot never had a chance. Off the glass and out of the gym, Malcolm X launches it and the break is ON! That is body control you simply cannot coach: Hasan Piker stays up a full beat longer than everybody else and finishes clean.

The rapper makes the simple read look automatic. Clock out of work, clock in for clean basketball decisions. Malcolm X stutters at the elbow, the defender bites on it, and now there is nothing but open floor between him and the rim. The help defender had position, leverage, everything but a chance. Malcolm X rose straight over the top of him, and one.

Shimmy from the corner all the way to half court, shoulders loose, chin high. Malcolm X is in no hurry whatsoever. The home bench tries to copy it and produces something closer to a seizure. The building decides it loves both versions equally.

And there it is, a walk-in layup for Denver Horse-Track with not one hand raised in the paint. Somebody has to protect that rim.

Malcolm X gets it on the reversal and now this defense is rotating, scrambling and losing ground, all because Barack Obama saw it a beat early. Down screen, and Malcolm X curls hard into the middle of the floor with a full step of daylight. Easy read. Fifth possession this half where Malcolm X has been left to bail everybody out with the clock at zero. He cannot keep doing this alone.

The rapper just moved an entire defense with one flick of the wrist. Somebody check that resume again. The community organizer runs a dribble handoff with the timing of a fifteen-year vet. Not bad for somebody who does this on weekends. The civil rights activist had that thing halfway down and the rim spat it back out. Nobody ever warns you that the iron has a personality.

Martin Luther King Jr. Kicks his towel across the floor. Zohran Mamdani has already left for the locker room, alone. And here is the answer to our game show Whistle While You Guess! Wilma Jean Puckett of Sorghum Switch, Kansas, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'How many times does a referee blink during a single overtime period?' The answer was of course exactly 1,412 times, and 1,413 if the arena air conditioning is broken. Wilma Jean therefore wins a five year supply of individually wrapped mints from a bank lobby! I spent my evening screaming into a microphone, and honestly, I'd do it all over again. Good evening! Now: 'Destination Unknown: The Roundabout in Scranton, PA.' Total adventure.

Matchday 11vs New York Over-Timers

90-135 (L)

Small thing, a jump ball, but Martin Luther King Jr. winning that tip means we set the tone. Coaches script that first play for a reason.

Nobody boxed out. Tip in, New York Over-Timers, and two of ours were standing right there watching it happen.

Watch the spacing there, Barack Obama hits Malcolm X right in the shooting pocket and the possession stays alive. Martin Luther King Jr. just took a shoulder to the chest to buy Malcolm X half a second, and half a second in this league is an eternity. Malcolm X went for the deep heat check and produced the loudest silence of the night, roar to OHHHH in half a second.

That hesitation move is exactly why they keep sending a second body at Barack Obama the moment he crosses half court. OHHHH the POWER! Barack Obama took the hit and finished it anyway!

Shimmy from the corner all the way to half court, shoulders loose, chin high. Barack Obama is in no hurry whatsoever. The home bench tries to copy it and produces something closer to a seizure. The building decides it loves both versions equally.

Turnover, layup, New York Over-Timers straight through us in transition. Careless basketball.

Halftime. Hasan Piker glances at his phone for two seconds and puts it back. Anecdote: Hasan Piker once shot at the wrong basket during warm-ups. Nobody has forgotten. And now, our halftime TV game show Guess My Salary Cap! To win a sun visor that says FLORIDA but was manufactured in Indiana, text HOOPS to 555-1136 and answer this question: 'What is the exact salary of a mascot with no contract?' The show goes on. Players take position. Silence. Whistle.

The community organizer runs a dribble handoff with the timing of a fifteen-year vet. Not bad for somebody who does this on weekends. Getting to his spot and elevating, Zohran Mamdani puts it on the back iron, up over the front, and out. Half a rotation from two points.

Bucket for New York Over-Timers. Wide open look, and nobody even ran at the shooter.

Court vision like that on the community organizer is absurd. Whatever the day job pays him, the assist numbers say he is badly underpriced. Contested, off balance, fading away from the wrong shoulder, that is a shot Zohran Mamdani should never take with three teammates standing wide open.

More second chance points for New York Over-Timers, and our bench is up screaming for a timeout. Rightly so.

Barack Obama walks it up, two fingers in the air, and the whole offense shifts on his command. Beautiful footwork on that one from Martin Luther King Jr., the pivot foot never budges, which is precisely why the whistle stays in the pocket. The civil rights activist gets it handed over on a silver platter at point blank range and drops it. Somewhere in this building a coach is questioning every decision that led here.

Follow the ball there: four sets of hands, Barack Obama makes the last read, and the defense never gets set. That is training camp offense. DOUBLE DRIBBLE! Martin Luther King Jr. picked it up, put it back down, and the whistle went off like a smoke alarm.

The rapper just moved an entire defense with one flick of the wrist. Somebody check that resume again. OHHHH that is filthy! Barack Obama on the handoff and the man guarding it is still fighting over the top. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! That was IN for Hasan Piker!

Ohhh no. Corner three, New York Over-Timers in rhythm now, and our side of the building goes silent.

The community organizer reads the screen perfectly, comes off shoulder to shoulder, and buys himself an open look. Veteran movement, rookie resume. Pull-up from the elbow by Barack Obama, halfway down, spinning inside the iron, and it pops right back out. Another extra possession courtesy of the rapper, a man who evidently boxes out at work too. Some habits do not clock out. The rapper just went up over everybody and put that miss back with two hands. That is a night he tells his grandkids about!

Zohran Mamdani steps over the defender who ended up on the floor and keeps walking, never looks down. Cold as a meat locker. The building erupts twice, once for the bucket and once for the disrespect. The replay gets its own dedicated camera angle.

The imam commits the ugliest foul of the night entirely on purpose, and honestly that is the smartest thing anyone has done all quarter.

Martin Luther King Jr. Refuses New York Over-Timers's handshake. Zohran Mamdani offers a limp one with just his fingertips. And here is the answer to our game show Guess My Salary Cap! Marvin Hollopeter of Sandy Britches, New Jersey, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'What is the exact salary of a mascot with no contract?' The answer was of course free pizza on Thursdays and all the applause he can carry. Marvin therefore wins a sun visor that says FLORIDA but was manufactured in Indiana! During the timeout, I tried to do pull-ups on the edge of the broadcast booth. Zero. That's all for tonight! Coming up: 'CSI: Underground Parking Garage.' Riveting stuff.

Matchday 12vs Cleveland Twin-Towers

76-121 (L)

The imam just out-jumped a guy half a foot taller for the opening tip. Somebody check the day job again.

Turnover, layup, Cleveland Twin-Towers straight through us in transition. Careless basketball.

OHHHH the pin-down! Hasan Piker pops out clean while the defender is STILL tangled up with Malcolm X. Brutal. Long and gone. Hasan Piker floats the teardrop over everything and bangs it off the back iron.

Nobody boxed out. Tip in, Cleveland Twin-Towers, and two of ours were standing right there watching it happen.

Pass, cut, catch, wide open. Four things in about a second and a half from Zohran Mamdani. Two on the shot clock and the ball ends up with the rapper, which is how you get a twenty-eight footer off the wrong foot.

Break! Hasan Piker rips his shoes off the second he reaches the locker room. Little scoop: Hasan Piker logs every game in a notebook. With stars and smiley faces. At that age. And now, our halftime TV game show Go Fish for Answers! To win a porch swing missing every single chain, text HOOPS to 555-0468 and answer this question: 'What is the average lifespan of a whistle used in a middle school gym?' The hardwood awaits. Here we go for the second half.

Five bodies moving as one, Zohran Mamdani barking out every rotation, and there is not a crack anywhere in this thing. OHHHH what a hustle play from Martin Luther King Jr.! He had no business getting a finger on that basketball.

Cross court, on a rope, from the community organizer. In this league that pass earns a contract, and he does it on his night off. Off the pin-down comes the youtuber with nobody inside a zip code. Somebody out there knows how to use a screen, and it is not who you would guess. OHHHH he went BACKDOOR! Hasan Piker never broke stride and he has the ball UNDER THE RIM! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Hasan Piker scooped that in from underneath the rim!

That is that. Deep into garbage time, and Barack Obama is on the bench with a towel and a very large grin.

Count it and the foul. Brutal. Cleveland Twin-Towers with a three point play and a gut punch in the same possession.

The youtuber just created his own space with a stepback. Somewhere a scout is spitting coffee all over his notepad. That is what heavy minutes do, Hasan Piker has run all night and the legs have nothing left to give the jumper.

Bucket for Cleveland Twin-Towers. Wide open look, and nobody even ran at the shooter.

Pressure the length of the floor, Malcolm X splits one trap but not the second, and the eight count expires two feet short of halfcourt.

Ohhh no. Corner three, Cleveland Twin-Towers in rhythm now, and our side of the building goes silent.

Hesitate, GO. Hasan Piker is by that hip before the man even blinks. The youtuber just double dribbled in front of a sold-out building. Nobody back at work is ever letting that one go.

The youtuber had two points in the bank and the iron took them right back out. You do not get heartbreak like that in the day job. Hustle play of the night so far. Zohran Mamdani gave up his ribs for one extra possession and the bench is on its feet. Zohran Mamdani crashes the glass, snatches that miss out of the air and hammers it home. Onions!

Backing all the way to half court with three fingers held over each eye, Zohran Mamdani keeps the goggles on for the entire trip. The bench mob copies it in unison. The broadcast cuts to twelve grown men wearing invisible glasses. Peak television, honestly.

Zohran Mamdani kicks his towel across the floor. Hasan Piker has already left for the locker room, alone. And here is the answer to our game show Go Fish for Answers! Peggy Ann Winterbottom of Two Chairs, Nebraska, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'What is the average lifespan of a whistle used in a middle school gym?' The answer was of course six years, or two seasons of an especially loud coach. Peggy Ann therefore wins a porch swing missing every single chain! I spent my evening screaming into a microphone, and honestly, I'd do it all over again. Sleep tight! Coming up: 'Forensic Files: Who Finished the Milk Without Telling Anyone.'

Matchday 13vs Boston Ring-Chasers

77-122 (L)

Count it and the foul. Brutal. Boston Ring-Chasers with a three point play and a gut punch in the same possession.

Baseline spin from Barack Obama at full speed, and his man never even gets a hand into the picture. Filthy stuff. Count it AND the foul! Barack Obama refused to be denied at the rim.

More second chance points for Boston Ring-Chasers, and our bench is up screaming for a timeout. Rightly so.

The entry pass never comes, the count keeps running, and Malcolm X gets whistled out of his own paint.

Total control. Barack Obama has this thing on a string. Martin Luther King Jr. just took a shoulder to the chest to buy Malcolm X half a second, and half a second in this league is an eternity. From eight feet Malcolm X puts way too much on it, and the ball clears the rim entirely.

Break! Hasan Piker rips his shoes off the second he reaches the locker room. Confession: Hasan Piker believes the away locker room is haunted. Refuses to go in alone. And now, our halftime TV game show Lingo but Nobody Speaks! To win a hot tub cover with no hot tub anywhere near it, text HOOPS to 555-0241 and answer this question: 'How many times can you refold a road map before it turns against you?' We're back! The players look fired up.

Ohhh no. Corner three, Boston Ring-Chasers in rhythm now, and our side of the building goes silent.

The community organizer hit three straight and immediately decided he was allowed to shoot from the tunnel. He was not.

Turnover, layup, Boston Ring-Chasers straight through us in transition. Careless basketball.

Whistle! Zohran Mamdani gets him on the arm. Personal foul, nothing clever about it.

Dagger from Boston Ring-Chasers. You could hear the air leave this arena on that one.

One little shoulder dip from Barack Obama and the guy guarding him turned into a traffic cone in real time. OHHHH, the cylinder rejects the community organizer! Somewhere a whole workplace just yelled at a television.

Twenty-four seconds, zero shots. Hasan Piker holds it, the buzzer sounds, and we give it back without ever testing the rim.

You want basketball IQ? Ask the youtuber, who just moved the rock on time without one wasted dribble. Down screen, and Malcolm X curls hard into the middle of the floor with a full step of daylight. Easy read. Up goes the shot from Malcolm X and that is nothing but AIR, and every soul in this building saw it happen.

Ball up the floor, change of speed right at the logo, and Barack Obama already has the defense a full step behind. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Martin Luther King Jr. put that man in a blender and the third row felt it! Reverse layup by Martin Luther King Jr., using the rim as a shield the whole way through. A circus act wrapped around textbook footwork.

The civil rights activist commits the ugliest foul of the night entirely on purpose, and honestly that is the smartest thing anyone has done all quarter.

Zohran Mamdani and Malcolm X walk side by side without looking at each other. The silence is deafening. And here is the answer to our game Lingo but Nobody Speaks! Clovis Whittenberg of Number Nine Curve, New York, got it right. The question, let me remind you, was 'How many times can you refold a road map before it turns against you?' The answer was of course three, after which you simply live with it open. Clovis takes home a hot tub cover with no hot tub anywhere near it! I discovered tonight that my mic was off for three minutes. Three minutes of pure genius, lost forever. Alright, good night! Up next: 'Planet Earth: Exploring the World from My Couch.' Immersive documentary.

Matchday 14vs San Antonio Skyscrapers

78-122 (L)

Martin Luther King Jr. controls the tip, and the offense gets to run its first set on schedule. Little edges like that stack up over forty-eight minutes.

Bodies everywhere in the paint and it does not matter one bit to Barack Obama, one spin and the ball never leaves the string. Every highlight show in the country runs that clip tonight, and unfortunately for Barack Obama he is on the wrong end of it.

Eight seconds off the shot clock and Barack Obama has not wasted one of them, the ball reaching Malcolm X precisely where the play wanted it. Malcolm X tries to force it through two bodies and finds nothing but the defender's hands.

Turnover, layup, San Antonio Skyscrapers straight through us in transition. Careless basketball.

Across half court, a quick survey, a point to the weak side, and Barack Obama drops it off to Malcolm X on time and on target. Left, right, gone. Malcolm X put that defender on skates and never even looked back. Not a hand on him. Malcolm X flat missed the bunny.

First half is done. Malcolm X is chugging Gatorade like it's water. Anecdote: Malcolm X once shot at the wrong basket during warm-ups. Nobody has forgotten. And now, our halftime TV game show The Dating Game Winner Gets Nothing! To win a bowling ball with the initials of a total stranger drilled into it, text HOOPS to 555-0698 and answer this question: 'How many rows back can you sit before the players become rumors?' Here we go. Tactical adjustments have been made.

Cold blooded from San Antonio Skyscrapers, way out beyond the arc, and our defense is scrambling in rotation.

Hasan Piker drives, draws two bodies, and swings it one more time to the corner. That is the pass nobody is required to make. Oh my. Zohran Mamdani did not even draw iron.

San Antonio Skyscrapers again, and again nobody is home. Three straight trips down the floor with zero resistance.

They do not teach that in the community organizer handbook, and yet here we are. Beautiful little exchange. HAMMER! Martin Luther King Jr. goes right through the trees and throws it DOWN with the foul!

Martin Luther King Jr. Plants himself in front of the San Antonio Skyscrapers bench, hands on hips, and simply stands there until somebody says something. Somebody says something. Officials arrive at a jog. A teammate hauls him backward by the waist while the arena begs for more.

Ohhh no. Corner three, San Antonio Skyscrapers in rhythm now, and our side of the building goes silent.

Personal foul on the civil rights activist. Somewhere a shift is going uncovered and not one soul in this arena cares. Fourth foul on the civil rights activist and he is headed for the bench. Longest break the man has had since he took that job.

OHHHH no, Zohran Mamdani floats it crosscourt and it gets picked off clean. That thing is going the other way.

Bucket for San Antonio Skyscrapers. Wide open look, and nobody even ran at the shooter.

The rapper makes the simple read look automatic. Clock out of work, clock in for clean basketball decisions. Filthy. Absolutely filthy from Barack Obama, and the defender knows exactly what just happened to him. OHHHH that is SILKY! Barack Obama with the teardrop, and it kisses through.

Barack Obama throws both arms up and holds them there, letting the arena pull the sound out of him. Twenty thousand people on their feet at once. Zohran Mamdani grabs his shoulders from behind and shakes him like a snow globe. The floor is genuinely vibrating.

Screen, hesitation, delivery, Zohran Mamdani drops it off perfectly for Barack Obama diving to the rim. OHHHH, that one died in the air! Barack Obama put nothing into it and the front rim eats the floater.

Zohran Mamdani leaves the court at a jog. Malcolm X stays there, planted at center court, motionless. And here is the answer to our game show The Dating Game Winner Gets Nothing! Sharlene Boggs of Muleshoe Corner, Ohio, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'How many rows back can you sit before the players become rumors?' The answer was of course row thirty one, and after that it is basically folklore. Sharlene therefore wins a bowling ball with the initials of a total stranger drilled into it! Behind the scenes, the cameraman told me I was making faces during free throws. I had no idea. That's it for tonight. Coming up: 'Nailed It: Cakes Ruined by My Mother-in-Law.'

Matchday 15vs Oklahoma City Treasure-Chest

73-118 (L)

Bucket for Oklahoma City Treasure-Chest. Wide open look, and nobody even ran at the shooter.

The rapper makes the simple read look automatic. Clock out of work, clock in for clean basketball decisions. A cut with that timing from the civil rights activist? He is on the clock somewhere else all week and he still found time to learn the two-man game. Two on the shot clock and the ball ends up with the civil rights activist, which is how you get a twenty-eight footer off the wrong foot.

WALLED OFF! Zohran Mamdani slides over and the paint is CLOSED for business. The rapper walls up like a closed door and the shot never gets home. Nine to five, and now this.

Cold blooded from Oklahoma City Treasure-Chest, way out beyond the arc, and our defense is scrambling in rotation.

Push the pace! Barack Obama grabs it and hits Hasan Piker in stride before the defense can even match up. Here comes the slip from Martin Luther King Jr., and Hasan Piker reads it a half second before anybody else in the building. Kick out to Martin Luther King Jr., one more to Zohran Mamdani, splash from the wing and this bench is on its feet. Zohran Mamdani attacks the paint, absorbs the bump, twists his body all the way around the defender and reverses it in. FILTHY.

Zohran Mamdani runs the baseline high-fiving every hand hanging over the rail, all the way to the corner and back. It takes forever. Play is waiting on him. Nobody in the building wants it to stop, including, visibly, the officials.

Off to the locker room. Martin Luther King Jr. Has already drained two water bottles. Exclusive: Martin Luther King Jr. Was caught reading a philosophy book on the bench. It was Nietzsche. And now, our halftime TV game show Jeopardy Adjacent! To win a bucket of concrete turtles from a roadside stand that closed in 2004, text HOOPS to 555-0208 and answer this question: 'Which state has the most rectangular gymnasiums per capita?' We resume. Eyes locked in, jaws clenched.

Oklahoma City Treasure-Chest again, and again nobody is home. Three straight trips down the floor with zero resistance.

Read, screen, delivery, right on the money. A community organizer making the right pass every single time, and the league is taking notes. Even the civil rights activist knows better than that. You do not get to walk your man into the paint and call it a pick.

Lazy feed into the middle, Zohran Mamdani read it the whole way, and that possession is over before it started.

Nobody boxed out. Tip in, Oklahoma City Treasure-Chest, and two of ours were standing right there watching it happen.

Off the pin-down comes the community organizer with nobody inside a zip code. Somebody out there knows how to use a screen, and it is not who you would guess. That is a dime from Hasan Piker that deserved so much better, and Barack Obama knows it, head down, jogging back before the ball even lands.

More second chance points for Oklahoma City Treasure-Chest, and our bench is up screaming for a timeout. Rightly so.

Somebody find a fire extinguisher for the youtuber! Whatever the day job is, right now the only trade that matters is getting buckets. Off the dribble, a full step behind the logo, straight down. Tomorrow the youtuber goes back to work, tonight he owns this arena.

Somebody explain how the community organizer reads a defense faster than half this league. Whatever he does all day, it clearly involves thinking three steps ahead. The rapper reads the screen perfectly, comes off shoulder to shoulder, and buys himself an open look. Veteran movement, rookie resume. OHHHH, the cylinder rejects the rapper! Somewhere a whole workplace just yelled at a television.

Swing, swing, and Barack Obama finds Hasan Piker on the wing before the help can even turn its head. The youtuber reads the screen perfectly, comes off shoulder to shoulder, and buys himself an open look. Veteran movement, rookie resume. The crowd has found its chant, and Hasan Piker is going to be hearing it all night.

Whistles. Monitor. And Malcolm X standing frozen at midcourt. No good! The ball is STILL sitting in the hand of Malcolm X when that light comes on. Waved off.

Martin Luther King Jr. Bites his lip, fists clenched. Malcolm X shakes his head slowly, in disbelief. And here is the answer to our game show Jeopardy Adjacent! Wanda Jean Stubblefield of Possum Grape, Alabama, got it right. The question, I remind you, was 'Which state has the most rectangular gymnasiums per capita?' The answer was of course Indiana, and it is not particularly close. Wanda Jean therefore wins a bucket of concrete turtles from a roadside stand that closed in 2004! My wife texted me: 'when are you coming home?' I said 'after the game.' That was two hours ago. We're out. Up next: 'Say Yes to the Dress: Budget Three Fifty, Theme: Elastic.' Good luck.

My Team finishes #16 (0W-15L). Better luck next season! MVP: Barack Obama.
