Build your football team — every position, every era, one shareable card

Your roster. Your argument. One link.

Pick eleven, settle the debate

Start with the quarterback and work outward: the line that protects him, the backs behind him, the receivers who stretch the field. Current stars, retired legends, your own custom cards — nothing is locked, no era is off limits.

When the roster is done, it becomes a card you can post. And when you want to see what those eleven actually do on a snap, the same team walks straight into the play designer.

Your all-time offense, on the record

Every group chat has the same fight about the greatest quarterback. Build the whole offense instead of naming one player — and make the other guy build his.

Your team needs a left tackle and a slot receiver. Draft them, drop them in, and show exactly what the roster looks like once the hole is filled.

The units

Six groups, one football team

A football roster is not a list — it is a set of units that only work together. Here is what each one is actually for.

Quarterback
The one who touches the ball on every single snap. Everything else exists to buy him time or give him a target.
Offensive line
Five bodies — LT, LG, C, RG, RT — who decide whether the play ever happens. The center also snaps the ball.
Backs
The running back carries and blocks; the fullback clears his path. Two of them means run-first personnel.
Receivers
X isolated outside, Z flanked off the line, H in the slot — three roles, not three copies.
Tight end
The hybrid Y: blocks like a lineman on one snap, runs a seam route on the next.
Defense
Line, linebackers and secondary — the eleven you build against yourself in the play designer.
Positions

What each player actually does

Quarterback (QB)
Takes the snap, reads the defense, throws or hands off. Touches the ball on every offensive play.
Running back (RB)
Carries the ball, catches out of the backfield and blocks blitzers. In 21 personnel he shares the backfield with a fullback.
Tight end (TE / Y)
The hybrid: attached to the line to block like a sixth lineman, or released as a receiver over the middle. “12 personnel” means two of them.
Slot receiver (H)
Lines up inside the outside receiver, in the space between the line and the sideline. Faces a nickel defender, not a corner.
Wide receiver (X / Z)
X is isolated on the backside and takes press coverage; Z is flanked off the line and can be sent in motion.
Offensive line
Left tackle, left guard, center, right guard, right tackle. The left tackle protects the blind side of a right-handed quarterback.
Edge rusher
The defender aligned outside the tackle whose job is to bend the corner to the quarterback. In a 3-4 that role belongs to the outside linebackers.
Linebacker (M / W / S)
Mike in the middle, Will on the weak side, Sam on the strong side. They stop the run, drop into zones and blitz.
Cornerback (C)
Covers the receivers one-on-one or plays a deep third. In Nickel a fifth one comes on to cover the slot.
Safety (F / $)
The last line: free safety patrols deep centre-field, strong safety plays closer to the box against the run.

Nobody agrees, and that is the point. Put a 1970s runner behind a 2020s line, hand the ball to whichever quarterback you will defend in public, and publish it.

Roster questions

Before you build

How the builder works, and what the positions mean.

Is the football team builder free?
Yes — building, saving, sharing and exporting are free, with no account. Build as many rosters as you want and share each one with its own link.
Can I mix players from different eras?
That is the whole point. Put a 1970s running back behind a modern offensive line, or hand the ball to a quarterback who retired before your receivers were born. No era is locked.
Can I add people who are not football players?
Yes — upload your own cards with any photo and name. Friends, family, a group chat, a whole office: the roster does not check credentials.
What does a tight end do?
The tight end (drawn as Y) is the hybrid: attached to the line he blocks like a sixth lineman, released he runs routes over the middle. Personnel groupings count them — “12” means two tight ends on the field.
What is a slot receiver?
The receiver lined up inside the outside man, in the space between the line and the sideline. He usually faces a nickel defender rather than a cornerback, which is why quickness matters more than height there.
What is an edge rusher?
The defender aligned outside the tackle or tight end whose first job is to bend around the corner to the quarterback. In a 3-4 defense that role belongs to the outside linebackers.
What do the numbers like 11 or 21 personnel mean?
First digit running backs, second digit tight ends, receivers fill the rest of the five eligible spots. So 11 = 1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WR; 21 = 2 RB, 1 TE, 2 WR; 12 = 1 RB, 2 TE, 2 WR.
What is season mode?
Once your roster is set you can play out a fifteen-game season: results, standings and a recap generated from your team, so the roster becomes a story instead of a snapshot.
Can I use the same team in the play designer?
Yes. The play designer opens with the same personnel, on a tackle 11v11 or flag 5v5 field, so you can draw the plays those exact eleven will run — and export them as an animated GIF.
How do I share my team?
Every roster gets its own link, plus image exports sized for X, Instagram and stories. No account is needed to open a shared team on any phone.
